To the friends and families who headed home with a little less in the trunk and a lot more on your heart: we saw you yesterday.

We saw the packed SUVs, the carefully coordinated room setups, the last-minute store runs for forgotten extension cords, and those hard, quiet hugs before you got back in the car. Stepping back and letting your first-year student take this leap is one of the proudest—and toughest—milestones you’ll ever face.

As you settle back into a slightly quieter house, we want to offer you some peace of mind.

Our officers are on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We aren't just here to enforce rules—we are here to walk the paths, patrol the residence halls, provide late-night safety escorts, and offer a steady, friendly presence whenever your student feels unsure or needs help. We treat this campus like a community, and we treat your students like our own.

You built their foundation and got them to the starting line. Our charge now is to help protect their environment so they can learn, grow, and thrive safely.

Welcome to Fitchburg State University. Rest easy, drive safe, and know that we’ve got the watch from here.

Quick-Tip: Save our non-emergency dispatch number directly into your phone so you always have it on hand: 978-665-3111.

Safety takes a community. We deeply appreciate our campus partners, especially our dedicated student leaders, for their ongoing collaboration in keeping our campus safe and secure.

Our proactive approach to preventing targeted violence relies on three key pillars:

1) Awareness & Prevention Programs powered by community partnerships.
2) Accessible Reporting Systems that create early opportunities for intervention.
3) Comprehensive Response Training for UPD and our full campus community.

We are safer together.

The Fitchburg State University Police Department holds an annual awards program centered around one core value: being in service to others.

While we use this tradition to recognize the dedication of our own staff, it is equally about celebrating our campus partners; those whose meaningful contributions bolster safety and support our educational mission.

This past Monday, Chief Cloutier presented Capital Planning and Maintenance (CPM) with an Appreciation Award in honor of their dedication and service to Fitchburg State University. CPM supervisors proudly received the award on behalf of the entire department.

Working tirelessly behind the scenes, the CPM team plays an essential role in preserving a safe and secure environment for everyone in the campus community. The partnership between UPD and CPM is built on a long tradition of collaboration and a shared devotion to public service, a foundation essential to the daily operations of Fitchburg State.

As we look forward to the 2026–27 academic year, we express our sincere gratitude to the entire CPM team!
