Safety Saturday is coming up tomorrow, June 13. Join us from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Capitol Square in downtown Madison. Dane County Emergency Management and many of its community partners will be set up with public safety demonstrations, hands-on activities, and a chance to check out the equipment we use to protect our communities.

If you see public spaces with downed trees or other storm damage, make sure to report them to the agency in charge of that space.

Another round of intense storms is possible later today, including the risk of tornadoes. Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts!

If you are without power because of the storms, be cautious with any food stored in your refrigerator.

If the doors stay closed, food will stay safe for up to 4 hours in a refrigerator, 48 hours in a full freezer, or 24 hours in a half-full freezer. Perishable foods should be thrown out if they are stored without power for more than 4 hours.

There are many reports of tree damage and downed power lines across Dane County, following a severe thunderstorm this afternoon that produced very strong winds.

Report downed power lines and outages to your utility. Never go near power lines and stay clear of any debris they may be touching!

If you have trees damaged or knocked down by the storms, be safe during cleanup. Check with your municipality for information on how to dispose of debris.

Stay weather aware throughout the storms and later tonight. Know where your shelter is located and head there if a warning is issued!

A line of very dangerous thunderstorms is moving across southern Wisconsin this afternoon. Severe weather potential is increasing now through 3 PM over central parts of the area. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 80 MPH, in addition to brief tornadoes, are the main concerns. Move to immediate safe shelter if a warning is issued for your area!
