Earlier this afternoon, Group 3 companies responded for the report of a building fire in the Parkhill area. First arriving crews confirmed a fire in the first-floor rear of the building. Crews quickly stretched attack lines, established a water supply, and extended the aerial ladder to the roof. A quick knockdown was made before crews conducted overhaul operations. The incident went to a 2nd alarm.

6 residents were displaced. No injuries were reported.

We thank our neighboring fire departments for their assistance at the scene and for providing coverage throughout our city.

Last night, Group 3 companies responded to the Pearl Street area for reports of smoke coming from a residence. First-arriving crews confirmed smoke showing, and a working fire was struck. Crews quickly deployed an attack line to the first floor and established a water supply.

The fire was contained to the first-floor kitchen and extinguished. Crews then conducted overhaul operations to check for extension.

Two cats were rescued, and no injuries were reported.

Late this morning, Group 4 companies were dispatched to the Pine Street area for a reported building fire. While en route, responding companies reported seeing heavy black smoke from the Water Street area.

First-arriving crews encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the building, with adjacent buildings exposed. Crews quickly deployed multiple attack lines, established a water supply, and extended the aerial ladder to the roof.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and crews remained on scene conducting overhaul operations. The incident went to a working fire.

Two people were displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.

We thank our neighboring communities for providing station coverage and assisting in protecting our city during the incident.

Everyone at the Fitchburg Fire Department would like to congratulate retired Deputy Chief John Curran Sr. on celebrating his 102nd birthday yesterday!

Deputy Chief Curran retired on June 30, 1986, as Fire Prevention Deputy after 39 years of dedicated service to the City of Fitchburg.

Happy 102nd Birthday, Deputy Chief Curran!
