Everyone at the Fitchburg Fire Department would like to congratulate retired Deputy Chief John Curran Sr. on celebrating his 102nd birthday yesterday!

Deputy Chief Curran retired on June 30, 1986, as Fire Prevention Deputy after 39 years of dedicated service to the City of Fitchburg.

As part of their introductory training, Firefighters Provençal and Kirlew spent today getting hands-on experience with our Jaws of Life, practicing vehicle extrication skills they'll rely on to help rescue victims during serious motor vehicle accidents.

Earlier this morning, Group 4 companies were dispatched to the Marshall St area for the report of a possible fire in a residence. En route, crews were updated that the fire was in the kitchen area of the home. First arriving companies confirmed a fire in the kitchen with extension. A working fire was struck. An attack line was deployed, water supply established, and roof access gained via aerial ladder. The fire was quickly extinguished before overhaul was conducted.

4 residents were displaced.

1 person was transported to a nearby hospital.

We thank our neighboring communities who covered our city during the incident.

The Fitchburg Fire Department is excited to welcome our two newest firefighters!

This Tuesday, Ryan Provençal and Jonathan Kirlew were sworn in and officially joined our ranks as full-time firefighters for the City of Fitchburg. We extend our warmest welcome and wish them both a long, safe, and fulfilling career serving the residents of Fitchburg.

Ryan and Jonathan will begin their introductory training next week before being assigned to their respective groups.
