May 17-23 is Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week and we want to thank everyone serving on the frontlines of providing care. The men and women who work in EMS here in Dane County and across the nation play an important part in saving lives.

The theme of EMS Week this year is “Improving Outcomes, Together.” It offers an opportunity to focus on the many ways EMS providers collaborate across disciplines to serve the best interests of patients. Thank you!

Dane County EMS was thrilled to stand alongside County Executive Melissa Agard Monday, as she announced Rescue 31 is ready for service. This new county-owned ambulance will serve as a backup for municipal EMS providers throughout Dane County, allowing them to continue providing service when one of their own ambulances is unavailable.

May 4 is recognized as International Firefighters’ Day. It’s an opportunity to honor firefighters for their service and to remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty. We give our thanks to the many firefighters in Dane County who have dedicated their lives to protecting life and property.

The ticks are biting. Be careful out there!

Uh oh, you found a tick attached to your body! Here’s what to do next:
☑️Grasp tick with narrow-bladed tweezers as close as possible to the skin.
☑️Pull upward and out with a firm and steady tension.
☑️After removing the tick, use rubbing alcohol to clean the bite site and wash hands.
☑️Save the tick in a plastic baggie just in case you develop symptoms later. This can help know what kind of tick bit you and what diseases it may carry.
☑️Visit your doctor if you have a rash or fever within 30 days of removing a tick or after possible tick exposure. Tell them when and where you may have come into contact with the tick.
