Welcome back, Fitchburg Elementary Families!

Registration is now open for our afterschool 21st Century & Fitchburg Afterschool Programs at the following sites:

Crocker Elementary School
McKay Elementary School
Reingold Elementary School

Longsjo Middle School
Memorial Middle School

Programming at these sites will begin on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Please be sure to register at https://sites.google.com/fitchburg.k12.ma.us/21st-century-afterschool/home by September 3 to be considered for a spot.

Invitations will be emailed to families via the email address used in registration by September 10.

[Please note that at this time, programming for kindergarten students at South Street Early Learning Center typically does not begin until December or January. Due to funding constraints, we are pausing programming at SSELC at this time. Any updates about continued programming will be posted here and on FPS social media channels.]

We are looking forward to a wonderful year of afterschool programming with our students and families.

WELCOME BACK!

The first day of school has arrived, and we are excited to welcome our students in Grades 1 - 12 back for a new school year!

Today marks the beginning of another year filled with learning, new experiences, friendships, challenges, accomplishments, and plenty of opportunities to grow. We are looking forward to seeing our schools come alive again as students and staff begin the year together.

To our students: We hope your first day is a great one. Whether you are stepping into a classroom for the first time or returning to familiar hallways, we are happy to have you back and ready for a new year.

To our families: Thank you for helping make the start of the school year a success. We appreciate your partnership and support as we begin another year of learning and connection.

To our staff: Thank you for all you have done to prepare for today and for the year ahead. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to our students make a difference every day. We’re grateful to have you back and ready to make this a great year.

A great start to the 2026 - 2027 school year!

Over the past week, we welcomed our school and district leaders back for our annual Administrator Retreat and had the opportunity to welcome our newest educators to Fitchburg Public Schools at New Teacher Orientation.

There is a lot of excitement and positive energy as we prepare to welcome our students back next week. Thank you to our administrators, educators, and staff for everything you are doing to get ready for a great year ahead.

Welcome back to Fitchburg Public Schools for the 2026 - 2027 school year!

As we begin Year 2 of our strategic plan, United in Purpose. Driven by Possibility., we remain focused on ensuring every student is supported, engaged, and challenged to grow and achieve.

This year also brings our new Vision of a Graduate, centered on five key areas: character and contribution, communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, perseverance and self-management, and confidence and agency.

Families are encouraged to review the Superintendent’s welcome letter for important information about the school year, including first days of school, September Open House dates, the new bell-to-bell Cell Phone and Personal Electronic Device Policy, Superintendent’s Office Hours, and helpful district resources.

Dear Fitchburg Public Schools Families,

As we prepare for the new school year, I want to remind you that our new Cell Phone and Personal Electronic Device Policy will take effect this fall. The goal of this policy is simple: to reduce distractions, increase student engagement, and create the best possible learning environment for every student.

Ready, Set, School! Community Impact Block Party

The Fitchburg community came together on August 9 for the Ready, Set, School! Community Impact Block Party at Riverfront Park.

Families enjoyed an afternoon filled with free back-to-school resources, activities, and community connections, including haircuts and braids, backpacks, face painting, food and ice cream, basketball, a community art project, a petting zoo, and more.

Thank you to the many community organizations, partners, volunteers, and families who helped make this event a success. Your support helped make the start of the school year a little brighter for Fitchburg students and families.

Registration for the 2026-2027 Fall Athletic Season is NOW OPEN via FinalForms. A complete "playbook" for families to navigate the process in a step-by-step fashion can be found here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1u6z4AAdqx-7d-00V_ZOQ5r9nP9kcZP2N?usp=sharing.

In an effort to simplify the experience for our multi-sport student-athletes and families, we have opened all sports and all seasons at once, requiring that you register just once and indicate all of the sports you will try out for in 2026-2027. The great part about FinalForms is that you can always return to your account and add/remove a sport for an upcoming season. This initial registration drive will give everyone a head-start on the year ahead.

Returning student-athletes/families please avoid confusion on designating a sport(s) for 2026-2027 because when you log-in and see a message which says either "no forms" or "forms already completed". Those are your forms from last year.

You parent/guardian must first select your student-athlete's sport(s) for 2026-2027 and then the system will reset all forms for the parent/guardian and student-athlete. In an effort to help clarify the process for returning student-athletes, attached please also find a set of returning student-athlete and family instructions in both English and Spanish.

Also, new for 2026-2027 there will be a required Student-Athlete/Family Preseason Meeting for All-Sports & All-Seasons on Thursday August 20th, 7:00PM in the Fallon Auditorium at FHS. This meeting is a requirement for participation in any and all FHS Athletics for 2026-2027 and will review important department-wide expectations/policies/procedures for the season ahead. Coaches will also be available to provide details on expectations for the Fall, Winter, & Spring seasons.

Winter 2026-2027 tryouts and practices begin Monday, November 30, 2026

Spring 2027 tryouts and practices are expected to begin Monday, March 15, 2027
