🔥 Firehouse Feature 🔥
For our second month of the Firehouse Feature series, we're proud to introduce Firefighter Donald Sparby! Donald has been a paid‑on‑call firefighter with Fitchburg Fire for 7 years.
🚒 What made you decide to become a firefighter?
"After earning my Eagle Scout rank, I was looking for another way to serve my community. I first became a firefighter when my local volunteer department needed daytime responders. I later joined FFD at the recommendation of a co‑worker who encouraged me to grow my skills and become a better firefighter."
🚒 What is your favorite part of the job?
"My favorite part of the job is the opportunity to learn something new every shift. Firefighters are problem solvers — we find different ways to tackle the challenges that arise in the community."
🚒 What do you enjoy doing on your days off?
"When I’m not on duty, I enjoy spending time with my family and training with my daughters in Taekwondo."
🚒 What do you like most about serving the Fitchburg community?
"I enjoy teaching fire safety within the community. It’s exciting to see people learn and become more confident with fire safety."
Thank you, Firefighter Sparby, for all you do!
