Do to continued dry conditions and worsening drought the GA Forestry Georgia Forestry Commission has issued a temporary burn ban for most of South GA including Ben Hill, Coffee, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Tift, Turner, and Wilcox counties. U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) issued a statement last week stating that this is the worst drought we have seen since 2012.

Please use caution when doing work outside that may produce a spark; including lawn care. With the excessively dry conditions it may only take a single spark to start a fire.

All Ben Hill County offices will be closed until 1pm tomorrow due to predicted adverse weather.

The National Weather Service has issued severe weather warning for early tomorrow morning through early afternoon tomorrow. Please stay off the roads if at all possible when the weather starts to deteriorate tomorrow morning. If you have anything to report as the weather starts and as it passes please share to this page. If you have an emergency please call Ben Hill County 911.

Justice Ave from hwy 129/ Bowens mill hwy to Jack Allen Rd W will be closing, beginning at 1 P.M. today 2/16/26 and expected to reopen to all traffic Wednesday 2/18/26 for roadway repair.
Lobinger ave will be closed in front of address 243 Lobinger Ave beginning Tuesday Morning 2/17/26 and expected to be opened back up Wednesday 2/18/26 at 8 A.M..

Ed Ward Road will be closed to through traffic beginning today at noon due to construction. The road closure will end February 6th by close of business.

The NWS Tallahassee has placed Ben Hill County under a Winter Weather Advisory. We have a near 90% chance of receiving wintery precipitation of a trace to 1 inch starting sometime around 9 am Sunday morning. There is little chance of major accumulation of snow or ice due to above freezing temperatures tonight and in the morning. We will keep you posted as more information comes available.

If you notice ice on the roads tomorrow please report it so that we can all be as safe as possible.
