A new severe weather and public alert system is now active for Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County.

Replaces 1955 bridge in Ben Hill Co.

*****Road Reopening*****

After several months of work replacing the bridge on Tulip Road, the work is completed.

Tulip Rd is now reopened to through traffic.

********** ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE **********

All of the roads damaged by the June 19, 2026 major rain event have been reopened to traffic. Continue to use caution on all county dirt roads as we continue to see showers and heavy rains throughout the county.

We are currently experiencing some technical issues with our CodeRED Alert system. We are actively working to identify the problem and get it back up and running as quickly as possible.

Please be aware that severe weather is expected to move through our area this afternoon. Until our alert system is fully operational, we encourage everyone to closely monitor local weather reports and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

The following roads are closed and will remain closed to through traffic until the Ben Hill County Road Department completes the needed repairs from the damage sustained during excessive rain event we had on the morning of June 19th, 2026.

Dickson Mill Pond Rd
Pinelevel Church Rd

Please use caution when traveling on the following roads as well due to major washouts. The road department will be repairing these as quickly as possible as well.

*************Attention*************

Due to the excessive rainfall that we received overnight and thorough out the morning today some roads have been temporarily closed.

The following roads are currently closed to through traffic due to flooding:

Snapdragon Rd (now open in Ben Hill County)
Red Bluff Rd (now open in Ben Hill County)
Spring Rd
Pinelevel Church Rd
Grouse Rd
Dickson Mill Pond Rd
Flint Rd

Iris Rd is also closed between Bowens Mill Hwy (129) and Hollyhock Rd.

Our Road Department is working to repair roads as soon as conditions make it possible, prioritizing roads which have only one access point. Please avoid roads which are covered with water and use extreme caution if no other route is available.

There are several city streets that are closed as well.

If you see water across the road please try and find another route. If you must cross running water be cautious it only takes a few inches of water to move your vehicle off of the roadway and into a very dangerous situation.
