COMMUNITY FORUM BREAK-OUT SESSIONS:

Topic 1: Population and Housing
This session will discuss current and future housing needs, including the type of housing and the infrastructure to support the community/economy and the locations/areas in which they should be allowed.

Topic 2: Economic Development
This session will discuss what sort of economic goals would suit Fitzwilliam given our strength and weaknesses. Discussion would include what sort of businesses, industries and/or infrastructure should exist in town and the locations in which they should be allowed.

Topic 3: Arts and Culture
This session will discuss the impact culture and the arts would have on the future of the town. Discussion would include educational, enlightening, entertaining, or artistic projects or priorities designed to integrate the arts into everyday life and to strengthen the quality of life and character of Fitzwilliam.

Topic 4: Conservation and Natural Resources
This session will discuss the natural resources and conservation land in town and how best to utilize these resources for the benefit of all. Discussion would range from how best to prepare for potential natural hazards to protection and/or use of natural resources.

Topic 5: Youth and Education
This session will discuss all aspects of youth and education. Discussion would include existing recreational and educational areas and look to future needs of the community.

Topic 6: Historic Preservation and Heritage
This session will discuss the historic nature of Fitzwilliam and how best to preserve our cultural and historic resources. Discussion would include potential projects or priorities to improve historic preservation.

This is a great task that can be done as a family. This anonymous survey can be completed on paper or online. Paper versions are available at the Library, Town Hall, or police station. The Steering Committee for Fitzwilliam’s 2022 Master Plan would like to wish all of our neighbors and fellow community members a very Happy New Year. 2022 is going to be a big year for Fitzwilliam. This spring we will host a Town Forum where, collectively, we will discuss the future of our town, our natural resources, our infrastructure, economic development goals, housing needs, and more. This will be an opportunity for anyone to weigh in and be heard. And we mean anyone! If you’re an Emerson fifth grader with a great idea, we want to hear about it. After all, we’re talking about your future!

In preparation for the Town Forum, the Steering Committee is drafting a comprehensive survey to be mailed to every household over the next week. This questionnaire is designed to gather important baseline information about the Fitzwilliam community, our institutions and resources, in order to provide analysis that will inform the community workshops that will take place during the Forum. Breakout sessions will be led by community leaders and committee members involved in the planning and administration of different disciplines. Your interest or expertise will be critical in forming a vision for the next ten years, the Master Plan.

When you receive the comprehensive survey in the mail, please fill it out and return it to the designated drop-off locations as soon as you can. There will also be an option to take the survey online, so multiple members of your household can, and should, participate. In 2007, the last time we distributed a community-wide survey, we had a return rate of around 25%. Let’s beat that record this year!

Join us in helping to prepare for the next Fitzwilliam Master Plan, a visionary declaration of what we would like our town to be. The Master Plan Steering Committee will be reaching out over the next few months to find out what you're thinking. Everyone's opinions, ideas, ambitions, and brainstorming are welcome and important to this process.

The Town of Fitzwilliam Master Plan is updated about every ten years. The plan sets out goals and principles related to land use, zoning, the physical character of the community, environmental stewardship, infrastructure, community services, and economic development. In short, it’s a long range plan. You can obtain a copy of the last Master Plan (2012) from the Town Hall or through the Fitzwilliam website: https://fitzwilliam-nh.gov/
