Rocky Fork State Park was designated in Oct 2012. It was opened and staffed with Rangers on May 1 2015. Day-Use Only Park except at Backcountry Primitive Campsite Areas. No facilities currently available at the park except for portable toilets. Small Parking Lot. Do not block brown entrance gate. We have on-going Trail & Nat Resource Projects. Monthly Interpretive programs. Carpool Recommended. Pl

ease do not attempt to drive up Rocky Fork Road to Park with a RV or a pull behind camper, we do not have a campground. There is no where to turn around for RVs or pull behind campers and the road is very narrow. A program everyone enjoys at Rocky Fork State Park is Ranger Cory’s Fly Fishing 101 program! 🎣

Ever wanted to unlock the mystery of fly fishing and learn how to pursue the wild trout of Rocky Fork? 🐟 Ranger Cory can help! This 3–4-hour workshop is designed specifically for beginners, so you don’t need any previous fly-fishing experience. And the best part? You don’t even need a fly rod! One will be provided for you to use during the workshop. 🙌

During the program, Ranger Cory will teach you:

🎣 Basic fly-casting techniques
🪰 How to select the right fly
🎒 What fishing gear you need
🐟 How to pursue the Rainbow and Brook Trout found in the creeks of Rocky Fork State Park

Whether you’re completely new to fly fishing or have always wanted to give it a try, Fly Fishing 101 is a great way to learn, get outside, and experience Rocky Fork from the water!

One of the special programs offered at Rocky Fork State Park is Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Amanda’s Fungi 101 Hikes, held during the summer. 🌿🍄

Join Amanda on a hike to discover some of nature’s coolest creations! She shares information about common fungi found right here in Rocky Fork and East Tennessee, teaches visitors how to identify mushrooms, and shares interesting facts along the way. 🔎🍄

September is National Mushroom Month! And with all the rain Rocky Fork has received lately, the forest floor has been putting on quite the show! From colorful mushrooms to fascinating fungi, there is always something new to discover when you slow down and take a closer look.

This is just another reason Rocky Fork State Park is such a special place!

🌕 TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTED PROGRAM: FULL MOON HIKES! 🌕🥾

One of the special programs offered at Rocky Fork State Park is Ranger Jeff’s Full Moon Hikes, held during each full moon. 🌲🌕

The hike begins at dusk with a moderate trek up to the White Oak Flats Trail, where hikers can take in the beauty of the full moon from the White Oak Flats overlook, along with breathtaking views of the distant mountain peaks. ⛰️✨

Along the way, Ranger Jeff makes stops to share the wonders of Rocky Fork Trail after dark and help visitors experience the park in a whole new way. 🌙

This is just one of the many reasons Rocky Fork State Park is such a special place!

There’s been no shortage of adventure at Rocky Fork this summer!

From discovering the fascinating world of fungi on our Fungi 101 Hikes, to watching the mountains wake up for gorgeous sunrise, to getting up close with some of our favorite pollinators during our Butterfly Walks, our summer programs have been full of learning, exploring, and plenty of time outside.

And with all the rain Rocky Fork has received lately, our forests have been especially welcoming to one of our favorite things: mushrooms! The damp conditions have brought fungi to life throughout the park, making this a great time to slow down, look closely, and see what you can find along the trail.

While summer may be winding down, the fun at Rocky Fork is far from over. As the seasons begin to change, there is still plenty to discover, learn, and experience throughout the park. Keep an eye on our upcoming programs and join us for another season of exploring Rocky Fork!

Have you ever seen foxfire?

Foxfire is the common name for the eerie glow produced by certain species of bioluminescent fungi. While many people associate it with glowing mushrooms, the light is actually produced by the fungus itself, and in some species both the fruiting body (the mushroom) and the underlying mycelium can glow. Scientists continue to discover new bioluminescent fungal species each year.

So far, I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph several glowing bonnet species, as well as Bitter Oyster mushrooms, each giving off their own ghostly green glow.

Once our flashing friends begin to slow down for the season, this becomes my next nighttime obsession.
