September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, and this week’s theme, "Cultivating Connection Nationwide," feels especially meaningful for Flagstaff.
Connection can look so many different ways. It might be checking in with someone you haven’t heard from in a while ... sitting with a friend who's struggling ... listening without trying to fix everything ... sharing a resource ... or simply reminding someone that they matter. We may not always know what another person is carrying, but we can help create a CommUnity where fewer people have to carry it alone.
In Flagstaff, community is one of our greatest strengths. We are neighbors, relatives, friends, coworkers, classmates, and colleagues whose lives intersect in meaningful ways. Every one of us has a role in building a community where people feel seen, supported, and connected.
This month, let's join in making an intentional effort to reach toward one another. Learn the warning signs. Start conversations that may feel difficult. Ask for help when you need it. Check on the people you love, and make space for them to answer honestly.
If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline ( 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline ). You can also find support and resources at www.FindSupport.gov.
None of us is meant to do this alone. Let’s keep cultivating the connections that make Flagstaff not just a place we live, but a CommUnity where we thrive, together.
