September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, and this week’s theme, "Cultivating Connection Nationwide," feels especially meaningful for Flagstaff.

Connection can look so many different ways. It might be checking in with someone you haven’t heard from in a while ... sitting with a friend who's struggling ... listening without trying to fix everything ... sharing a resource ... or simply reminding someone that they matter. We may not always know what another person is carrying, but we can help create a CommUnity where fewer people have to carry it alone.

In Flagstaff, community is one of our greatest strengths. We are neighbors, relatives, friends, coworkers, classmates, and colleagues whose lives intersect in meaningful ways. Every one of us has a role in building a community where people feel seen, supported, and connected.

This month, let's join in making an intentional effort to reach toward one another. Learn the warning signs. Start conversations that may feel difficult. Ask for help when you need it. Check on the people you love, and make space for them to answer honestly.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline ( 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline ). You can also find support and resources at www.FindSupport.gov.

None of us is meant to do this alone. Let’s keep cultivating the connections that make Flagstaff not just a place we live, but a CommUnity where we thrive, together.

I’m truly disappointed to miss today’s screening of Belén while I’m home fighting off a bad cold. I’d been looking forward to seeing it and being part of this CommUnity conversation.

What makes Belén so powerful to me is the way one deeply personal story became part of something much larger ... a movement rooted in dignity, reproductive freedom, and people coming together to insist on change. It’s a reminder that movements often begin when someone’s experience is heard, taken seriously, and carried forward by others. That message feels especially meaningful in our current moment.

If you’re able to go today, tickets are still available at the door. I hope folks will take the opportunity to see the film, support the screening, and join the conversation.

I attended the first community conversation about a potential Drone as First Responder (DFR) program in Flagstaff, held at the Market of Dreams with representatives from Flagstaff Police, Fire, and Emergency Services.

There was a lot of information shared, and a lot of thoughtful community questions about privacy, data, oversight, possible uses, costs, and more.

I've put together these graphics to share some of the information and answers discussed at the meeting, including questions I brought forward on behalf of community members, and some of the resources I'm using to learn more about this program from a variety of perspectives. I welcome you to share other important resources for my and other community members' information and education!

One important note: Flagstaff does not currently have a Drone as First Responder program. This week's meetings and community conversations are part of early conversations about whether and how that technology might be used locally.

Technology like this raises important questions about both public safety and public trust. I appreciate that these conversations are starting now and welcoming community insights and considerations as early as possible. My hope is that there will continue to be meaningful opportunities for community members to learn, ask questions, raise concerns, and help inform what comes next so that your voices are deeply involved and honored in any future decisions the City, Council, and other community partners make.

Running a strong local campaign takes neighbors like you willing to invest in a shared vision for our community.

Your contribution helps me connect with Flagstaff residents and ensure that voters across our city know what’s at stake in this election. Whether you can give $10, $25, $50, or another amount, every contribution helps move this campaign forward.

I’m deeply grateful and humbled to receive the endorsement of Her Bold Move, a national organization working to elect more women at every level of government and ensure women are represented wherever priorities are set and decisions are made.

When we connected, we discussed some of the challenges that uniquely and disproportionately affect women, including access to safe, stable, and affordable housing, the importance of maternal behavioral health, and meaningful support for women and families. It's my humble privilege to add my voice to the chorus of women, families, and historically marginalized peoples calling out for positive change in our communities, states, and nation in these, and many more, areas.

I’m honored to join the Her Bold Move network and stand alongside women across the country who are leading with compassion, courage, pragmatism, and boldness. I look forward to carrying that shared commitment forward as we work to create positive change for Flagstaff, with women, families, and all people at heart.

Thank you, Her Bold Move, for your confidence in me and for standing with me and this people-centered campaign on the road to November.

Flagstaff, thank you! Thank you to everyone who voted, volunteered, contributed, displayed a sign, shared a post, asked a thoughtful question, or offered a word of encouragement during the primary election. I’m honored to continue to the November 3 general election, and I’m ready to keep earning your trust and support.

Over the coming months, I’ll continue sharing my commitments to Flagstaff, listening to residents across our community, and building the people-powered campaign that got us here.

There is more work ahead, and there is room for each of you in it. We’ve come this far ... Let’s keep going, Flagstaff. Together.

In addition to receiving the Gun Sense Candidate distinction from Moms Demand Action, I am honored to be endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, along with the 43 other recently endorsed candidates across the country.

This endorsement is deeply meaningful to me. As someone whose life has been impacted by gun violence, I am committed to working with our community and state to advance practical, community-centered solutions that help prevent gun violence, protect our families, and make Flagstaff and Arizona safer for everyone.

I'm so grateful to the volunteers, survivors, advocates, and community members who continue to turn their experiences into action and remind us that a safer future is possible. I'm proud to stand alongside them in this work.

I'm honored to have received the endorsement of the Arizona Youth Climate Coalition! I appreciated the thoughtful and engaging questions AZYCC asked throughout the endorsement process, which reflected their strong commitment to supporting vibrant, sustainable communities across Arizona.

As a youth-led organization, AZYCC is doing important work to elevate young voices in important community conversations, advance climate justice, and advocate for community-driven solutions rooted in economic and social justice. I'm encouraged by their work and the collaborative coalition they are building in every corner of our state.

Thank you again, AZYCC, for your endorsement and for continuing to organize, educate, advocate, and lead across our state.

Thank you, Flagstaff!

While votes are still being counted, I’m deeply grateful for the support that, based on results thus far, will allow me to advance through the primary and continue on the road to November.

I also want to recognize the hard work, commitment, and care for our community demonstrated by every candidate in this race. Running for public office asks a great deal of candidates, their families, their supporters, and their teams, and I appreciate everyone who stepped forward with a willingness to serve. I look forward to continuing this race alongside the other candidates moving forward as we each share our vision for Flagstaff’s future.

Now, the work toward November begins. I’m excited to keep meeting with neighbors, listening to your concerns and hopes, and earning your trust along the way.

Thank you for your support, your encouragement, and your belief in what we can accomplish together. Let’s keep going, Flagstaff!
