In 2019, my friend Congressman Mike Thompson introduced H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. The bill had broad bipartisan support and it became the first major piece of gun safety legislation to pass the House in more than 20 years.

Then, for two years, the bill languished as the gun lobby and their allies in the Senate shut down debate. Mitch McConnell never even allowed a simple vote.

But today is a new day. This week, Rep. Thompson reintroduced H.R. 8 and we can hold our elected officials to account. To seize this opportunity and pass this bill, we need your voice.
