Boobadoo Earthship, a current Sustainable Building Program participant is a great example of what local material reuse can look like!
The walls are created from 10 rows of old truck tires, from Soto Brothers Tires, that are packed with earth. The rammed earth helps regulate temperatures and creates strong, durable, and resilient walls. Cooling tubes are located at the bottom of the wall to provide cool air during hot summer days.
The glass bottle walls not only look beautiful, by repurposing discarded bottles, Earthships divert waste from landfills! Bottle walls also filter natural light into interiors and act as thermal mass, absorbing and radiating heat to stabilize indoor temperatures.
