Boobadoo Earthship, a current Sustainable Building Program participant is a great example of what local material reuse can look like!

The walls are created from 10 rows of old truck tires, from Soto Brothers Tires, that are packed with earth. The rammed earth helps regulate temperatures and creates strong, durable, and resilient walls. Cooling tubes are located at the bottom of the wall to provide cool air during hot summer days.

The glass bottle walls not only look beautiful, by repurposing discarded bottles, Earthships divert waste from landfills! Bottle walls also filter natural light into interiors and act as thermal mass, absorbing and radiating heat to stabilize indoor temperatures.

One of the current Sustainable Building Program participants is Boobadoo, an Earthship build located in Hart Prairie. Our post last year hinted at the greenhouse and solar array…. now we’ve seen it!

Boobadoo implements solar PV panels and a solar thermal array to generate electricity and heating directly from the sun.

The greenhouse is attached to the interior of the building, acting as a source of passive heating and cooling for the residence. Planters in the greenhouse are set up to receive and reuse greywater, reducing water consumption.
