Happiest of birthdays to you, Angel. And thank you for all you’ve done.

He saved more than a road—he saved a piece of America.
Angel Delgadillo is the “Guardian Angel of Route 66,” the barber from Seligman, Arizona who sparked a nationwide movement to save the Mother Road. After the highway was bypassed in 1985, communities along it began to decline, until his efforts helped bring travelers, stories and life back to Route 66.
“His efforts didn’t just save a road—they reinvigorated towns, inspired global nostalgia and preserved Americana for future generations,” says Bill Thomas, Commissioner for the Route 66 Centennial.

Just a few miles down the road, is Seligman, home of the Snow Cap. A must see as you travel the old mother road. I had the honor of working with the Delgadillo’s, Juan and Angel, on some Route 66 projects many years ago. Their work to keep Route 66 alive was miraculous.

Seligman, Arizona, is home to the longest surviving stretch of Route 66. Without the Delgadillo family, that wouldn't have been possible.
