๐Ÿ”ฅ Academy Live Burn Day Complete ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Yesterday marked the final live burn training for the GFR Recruit Academy before graduation.

Throughout the day, recruits put their skills to the test in a variety of realistic fireground scenarios, including basement fires, water supply operations, search and rescue, and victim removal. These evolutions challenged recruits to apply the knowledge and teamwork theyโ€™ve developed throughout the academy.

In the afternoon, family members joined the recruits to observe demonstrations of the skills and techniques learned during their training. Following dinner, the day concluded with a propane fire scenario, providing one final opportunity to showcase their abilities in a dynamic environment.

These recruits have worked incredibly hard over the past several months and are looking forward to joining the line following graduation next Friday.

Congratulations to the entire recruit class on reaching this milestone. We look forward to seeing the impact youโ€™ll make serving our communities.

This evening around 7:45 p.m., Engine 32 and Battalion 30 were dispatched to reports of a vehicle fire on
US-89 near mile marker 430. Due to multiple reports of a pickup truck fully involved and pulling a trailer, Battalion 30 requested a water tender respond to the incident.
Initial arriving crews found a fully involved pickup truck that was detached from the trailer. The fire had also extended into the surrounding wildland area.
Crews made an aggressive fire attack and were able to quickly contain the wildland fire to less than 1/10 of an acre. The pickup truck was deemed a total loss.
Summit Fire & Medical District would like to thank the Arizona Department of Public Safety for assisting with traffic control and helping provide a safe working environment for emergency personnel on scene.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect as of 0800 on May 21 across Coconino County in conjunction with our partners at the Coconino County, U.S. Forest Service - Coconino National Forest, and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

With increasing temperatures, dry conditions, and elevated fire danger across Northern Arizona, these restrictions are being implemented to help reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires.

Please use caution with anything that could spark a fire and help us protect our communities, forests, and public lands this season.

Additional restriction details and approved activities can be found through the participating agenciesโ€™ official channels and the SFMD website.

Please note, residential burning will not be allowed while in restrictions.
