✨ Teacher Feature: Ashley Fell✨

Meet one of our incredible teachers, Mrs. Fell! If she weren’t in the classroom, she says she would probably be an editor — which makes perfect sense given her love of reading, writing, and helping students find their voice.

Her favorite book is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, and her favorite children’s book is The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. In her classroom, students are often surprised by singing, dancing, and acting, thanks to her role co-teaching Drama Club!

By the end of the year, she hopes every student leaves fifth grade confident in writing a five-paragraph paper with strong evidence from multiple texts. One of her favorite classroom traditions is the end-of-year promotion speeches, where students reflect on their time at Mountain School and share their memories with families.

Her advice for parents? Help your child practice managing their time — fifth grade is the perfect time to prepare for middle school!

Taylor Welson brings connection, confidence, and plenty of personality to her 4th grade classroom!

One of her favorite classroom traditions is having students write to someone at home every Friday about their week. It’s a meaningful way for students to reflect, share, and celebrate what they are learning.

Ms. Welson believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to making learning fun. Each year, she focuses on building relationships with students so they know they are supported when challenges come their way. She encourages continual growth, celebrates progress, and isn’t afraid to be silly in front of the class.

A few stuffed animals and a well-stocked library don’t hurt either!

Pily Pantoja brings joy, independence, and celebration to her Kindergarten classroom!

One of her favorite classroom traditions is birthday celebrations, and her students love the special routines that make the classroom feel like a caring community — including washing dishes and taking flowers home every Friday.

She makes learning fun by giving students opportunities to make their own choices. Her hope is that every student leaves her classroom with a true joy for learning.

Her classroom motto is: “Do the right thing even when nobody is watching you.”

Ms. Wagemaker brings curiosity, exploration, and hands-on learning to her 3rd/4th grade combo classroom!

One of her favorite classroom traditions is WOW Friday, which stands for World of Wonders. Each Friday, students are shown a mystery photo connected to science, social studies, or current events. Without any explanation, they write observations and inferences, share their ideas, and then learn the real story through a video or article.

It’s a fun and meaningful way for students to practice curiosity, critical thinking, and reflection — and she loves seeing their excitement when the mystery is revealed!

✨ Teacher Feature: Laura Hoffman ✨

Meet Ms. Hoffman, one of our wonderful 2nd grade teachers!

If she weren’t a teacher, Laura says she would love to make greeting cards — a perfect fit for someone who brings so much creativity and heart into the classroom. Her favorite book is The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy.

In her classroom, students know they can stop by for a little glitter dusting when they want to shine extra bright! She hopes every student learns the importance of leading with kindness, knows they are loved and supported, and feels comfortable being themselves every day.

Mrs. Parkinson brings joy, kindness, and creativity to her 1st/2nd grade classroom every day!
One of her favorite classroom traditions is the last week of school theme days — from setting up a tent for camping day to making fresh lemonade with real lemons. Students also love spending time on the small reading couch, a favorite spot in the classroom.

She keeps learning engaging with math games, partner and group activities, high-frequency word hand-clapping games, and literacy centers where students get to make choices about their learning.

Her hope for every student is that they understand the power of kindness and feel brave enough to ask for help when something is challenging.

Her favorite quote is from Roald Dahl: “If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

💛 At Mountain School, students continue to outperform the State of Arizona across ELA and Math, showing the impact of a curriculum designed to support the whole child.

🎒 From Orton Gillingham literacy instruction and daily writing practice to Bridges in Mathematics, hands-on science exploration, cross-curricular projects, and STEAM Fridays, Mountain School students are building the skills they need to think critically, solve problems, and grow as confident learners.
