Forward progress on the Howard Fire has been stopped.

Firefighters are responding to the 3-acre Howard Fire, located 10 miles south of Flagstaff and visible from Lake Mary Road.

Resources assigned to the incident include four engines, one hand crew, one dozer and miscellaneous overhead.

Forest visitors are asked to avoid the fire area during suppression activities as a matter of public and firefighter safety.

Fire danger across all three of our districts remains VERY HIGH, and therefore, we remain in fire restrictions across the entirety of the Coconino National Forest.

The West Fire, located on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District in the West Clear Creek area, is 50% contained. Firefighters continue to respond to the fire with a full suppression strategy.

Resources assigned to the fire include two Hotshot crews, two helicopters, four engines, one water tender and miscellaneous overhead.

Firefighters are responding to the 5-acre West Fire located in the West Clear Creek area, roughly 4.5 miles west of Clints Well. Expect increased fire vehicle traffic along area roads, including state Route 87 and nearby forest roads.

Stage One fire restrictions went into effect across the entirety of the Coconino National Forest yesterday.

What does that mean?

Prohibited:
🚫No campfires at dispersed or undeveloped sites OR outside Forest Service metal rings.
🚫No charcoal/briquette grills in dispersed or undeveloped sites.
🚫No smoking in an area that is not barren or uncleared of all flammable material within a 3-foot diameter.

Permitted:
✅Campfires only in Forest Service provided metal rings at developed campgrounds and picnic areas.
✅Use of propane or liquid-fuel stoves with 3 feet of cleared space.
✅Smoking within an enclosed vehicle or building or in an open, developed recreation site.

Please do your part to help prevent unwanted human-caused wildfires by abiding by posted restrictions.
