What happens when two sisters turn the things they love into a business? For Grace and Hannah Ehrichs, the result is Blooming Meadow Farm and Bakery - a custom-order business filled with cakes, flowers, creativity, and a whole lot of heart.
Established in 2023, Blooming Meadow Farm and Bakery began with two sisters discovering passions of their own.
๐ For Grace, it was baking and cake decorating. She always wanted to learn how to decorate cakes, so she practiced, watched YouTube tutorials and tried new techniques! After selling cupcakes at a church event, she received a large order from a bank in Sioux Falls. That opportunity helped turn her hobby into something more.
๐ For Hannah, it was flowers. Her passion began with her first flower garden, which brought its own learning experiences - including discovering why you shouldn't put chicken wire over flowers that are going to grow through it! The garden may not have gone exactly as planned, but her love for growing flowers did.
One of their earliest trips to the Flandreau Farmer's Market is a memory they still carry with them. On a rainy day, they arrived with a bucket of wilted flowers and ended up with just one customer. A kind gentleman patiently waited as they wrapped two flowers for his wife. It was a small sale, but his encouragement meant a great deal to two sisters just getting started. โค๏ธ
Since those early days of selling to family, friends, and farmers market customers, Blooming Meadow Farm and Bakery has grown into a custom-order business serving Flandreau and surrounding communities.
Today, Grace creates custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other baked treats, while Hannah grows flowers and turns the fresh blooms into beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements. They also offer handmade watercolor cards.
And there are perks to being sisters in business - Hannah happily volunteers to taste-test Grace's desserts! ๐
Grace and Hannah are active members of the community outside their business, too. Between the two of them, they have volunteered at the library and Breadbasket, helped with VBS, played piano at Edgewood, participated in Crystal Theatre productions, accompanied the Colman-Egan choir, and participated in the Moody County Fair for the past four years.
For Grace and Hannah, being part of Flandreau's business community means being surrounded by people and businesses that support and encourage local entrepreneurs. They are especially thankful for businesses such as The Merc and JJ's Coffee Spot, which have provided opportunities for them to host pop-up shops and share their creations with the community.
