🚨 OUTDOOR WARNING SIREN TEST – DATE CHANGE 🚨

Jackson County EMA will conduct the monthly outdoor warning siren test on:

🗓 Tuesday, May 5, 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM

⚠️ This is ONLY a test. No action is required.

---

# # # ⚡ WHY THE CHANGE?
We are moving the test up one day due to the potential for severe weather on Wednesday, May 6.

Running the test during an active or possible severe weather day creates unnecessary confusion. If sirens sound on a severe weather day, the public needs to assume it is a real warning and take immediate action—not question whether it’s a test.

This adjustment ensures:
- ✅ Clear, no-confusion warning messaging
- ✅ Operational readiness ahead of possible severe weather
- ✅ Public trust in the system when it matters most

# # # 🧠 REMEMBER
Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people OUTDOORS.
Have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially indoors:
- NOAA Weather Radio
- Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)
- Trusted weather apps

Stay weather aware this week. Situations can change quickly.
Preparation now eliminates hesitation later.

Extremely busy day for Tri-Community fire departments. Around 3 P.M today we along with Tri-Community Higdon Station 1 Fire Department were dispatched to a chicken house fire on county road 324 in the Flat Rock area. It was also reported there were additional chicken houses and propane tanks endangered. Due to the initial reports from dispatch we immediately requested mutual aid from surrounding departments for tankers and personnel. Those departments consisted of Rosalie Volunteer Fire Department,Tri-Community Fire Department Station 2 Bryant, Cartersville Fire, Ider Fire as well as Henagar fire department. After arriving on scene we activated Tri-State Mutual Aid Association and requested additional tankers from Trenton-Dade County Fire, Davis Fire & Rescue and and mobile cascade system from New Home Fire Department . DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency as well as Jackson County EMA (Emergency Management) were also on scene providing rehab and captured drone footage of the fire. We also had Highlands EMS on scene on stand by. We want to give a huge thank you to all departments and all members for your extreme hard work you all provided today on this difficult and large fire. No injuries reported and all units cleared around 8 P.M

Just after noon today Tri-Community station 5 Flat Rock as well as Tri-Community Higdon Station 1 Fire Department were paged to a reported barn fire. First arriving unit on scene reported a large hay barn on fire and was about 60% involved. Homeowner advised there was about 400 round bales as well as farm equipment in the barn. Crews immediately requested mutual aid for tankers from Rosalie Volunteer Fire Department, Stevenson Volunteer Fire & Rescue as well as Cartersville Fire Dept from Dekalb County. Dump tanks were set up and tanker shuttle operations took place for several hours to try and contain the fire while the homeowner saved what hay bales they could. Will it snow? Will there be ice? Will it just turn out to be sunny? Seems like nobody knows! What we do want our community to know is that our dept spent the evening prepping and preparing for any call we may experience with inclement weather this weekend. Each truck pictured is equipped for the snow whether it be with chains or 4 wheel drive capability. In the event we do have inclement weather please do not travel on the roadways especially if we experience ice as it is even difficult for our responders and trucks to travel on ice. Also now is the time to make sure you have a plan in place in the event you lose power. While we hope for the best outcome this weekend know like always our dept is ready to serve the community!

We had our annual pump testing for our tanker and both engines this morning. We are happy to say that all 3 trucks passed. This test is not only important to help us keep up maintenance on the pumps but it also makes sure these trucks are ready to go when they are needed most when serving our community and surrounding departments.
