Tomorrow 8/5/2026 at 1:00 p.m. the Greenup County Public Safety Office will be testing warning sirens throughout the county if the weather permits. During this time warning sirens in Flatwoods, Worthington, Wurtland, Greenup, Lloyd, and South Shore will be activated. This is only a test! In the event of inclement weather, the test will be cancelled.
It is important to remember that warning sirens are intended to be used as outdoor warning devices and citizens are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive critical weather alerts. A couple ways to receive these critical alerts are by purchasing a NOAA weather radio or by signing up for our free Everbridge (Nixle) mass notification system. You can sign up for Everbridge (Nixle) by texting GCE911 to 888-777. You may also visit www.greenuppublicsafety.com for more information.
Remember, this is just a test and in the event of inclement weather the test will be cancelled.

National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a FLOOD WATCH for GREENUP COUNTY

WHEN...From 1 PM EDT this afternoon through late tonight.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Training or backbuilding thunderstorms this afternoon into tonight could create swaths of heavy rain, resulting in rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches
