I wanted to share some numbers and high points of our summer reading program!
🌟 Summer Reading 2026 — “Unearth a Story”
This summer, Fleming Library took children on an adventure of discovery, science, and reading through our “Unearth a Story” summer reading program.
📚 The Numbers
60 children officially registered for summer reading.
20 additional children participated in our Wednesday programs.
112 children and families attended our kickoff featuring Wildlife Encounters.
Mad Science Colorado brought hands-on, interactive science experiences to our library.

Each week, children explored a different area of discovery:
🦖 Paleontology
🏺 Archaeology
🐛 Insects
and much more!
Our Wednesday programs continued the science focus with hands-on activities that encouraged children to experiment, investigate, ask questions, and learn by doing.
🔬 Mad Science Was a Hit!
Our Mad Science Colorado workshops were so popular that we quickly reached capacity and created a waiting list. Because of the overwhelming interest, the library was able to add two additional workshops so more children could participate.
The Fleming Library Association, Tall Grass(Todd &SueAnn Iseli), The Town of Fleming, Shawn &Jeannine Cochran, and Gail Schmidt all helped fund a portion of the Mad Science programming, allowing us to expand these opportunities for local children.
The Fleming School funded our kickoff presented by WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS as well as our prizes.

The Fleming Library Association also funded our snacks.
All of the money this year comes from the above places, so with all of my heart thank you to these above sponsors as well as parents and grandparents who also paid for Wednesday programming. If I missed someone please let me know,
I also could not have pulled this off without my older helper kiddos who earned community service hours -thank you so much!
And last but certainly not least to Sandy Kinzie for your support and being willing to step up and help me in the summer. I cannot run this program by myself!
💚 What This Means for Our Library
The response to this year's programming demonstrated something important: our community wants hands-on educational opportunities for its children.
The library wasn't simply a place to read about dinosaurs, archaeology, insects, or science. Children were able to experience these subjects firsthand.
From a kickoff that welcomed 112 attendees to a Mad Science waiting list that led us to add two additional workshops, this summer demonstrated the incredible potential of creative, educational library programming.
This summer, we didn't just unearth stories—we unearthed curiosity, discovery, and a love of learning.
