⚠️ SCAM ALERT – Jury Duty Phone Scam ⚠️

The Fleming County Sheriff's Office has received multiple reports of individuals receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with the Sheriff's Office regarding missed jury duty. The caller then attempts to collect money by directing victims to purchase gift cards or use a prepaid debit card.

This is a scam.

The Fleming County Sheriff's Office will never call you and demand payment over the phone or instruct you to pay with a gift card, prepaid debit card, cryptocurrency, or any other unusual payment method.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be with the Sheriff's Office and asking for money:

Hang up immediately.
Call the Fleming County Sheriff's Office directly at (606) 845-4701 to verify the information.
Never provide personal or financial information over the phone to an unsolicited caller.
Never make payments to anyone claiming to be law enforcement using gift cards or prepaid debit cards.

If you have questions regarding jury duty, you may also contact the Fleming Circuit Clerk's Office to verify whether you have been summoned.

FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 330 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of east central Kentucky, including the
following county, Fleming.

* WHEN...Until 330 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 137 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of
rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area. This additional rain will allow minor flooding to
continue or worsen.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Fairview, Cowan and Ewing.

🚨 THEY HAVE BEEN LOCATED 🚨

🚨 MISSING JUVENILES – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

The Fleming County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating two missing juveniles.

Hunter Allen Johnson (15) and Jacob LeGrande McLaughlin (12) left their residence at 140 Reeds Lane, Wallingford, KY at approximately 12:52 a.m. on July 27, 2026.

Both juveniles have been entered as missing, and deputies are seeking any information that may help locate them and safely reunite them with their family.

Their last known possible direction of travel was toward Morehead, but their current whereabouts are unknown. They are believed to have left on foot after packing backpacks.

Hunter Allen Johnson was reportedly wearing navy sweatshirt, khaki pants, black and gray ball cap, carrying a black and gray backpack.

Jacob LeGrande McLaughlin was reportedly wearing black t-shirt, blue jeans, blue and gray ball cap, carrying a blue backpack.

If you have seen either juvenile or have any information regarding their whereabouts, please contact the Fleming County Sheriff’s Office immediately or call 911. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be helpful.

Congratulations to Deputy Tyler Olderham and Deputy Trey Bailey on graduating from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training Basic Training Class 570.

Over the past 18 weeks, Tyler and Trey completed an intensive academy that prepared them for the responsibilities of serving the citizens of Fleming County. Their training included Kentucky law, constitutional law, criminal investigations, patrol procedures, emergency vehicle operations, fi****ms, defensive tactics, physical fitness, de escalation, crisis intervention, first aid, report writing, and many other aspects of modern law enforcement. Graduation from the academy is a significant accomplishment that requires dedication, discipline, and hard work.

While graduating from the academy is an important milestone, it is only the beginning. The next phase of their training starts now as they enter our Field Training Officer program. Over the coming weeks, they will work side by side with experienced deputies, applying what they learned in the academy to real world situations while continuing to develop the skills, judgment, and professionalism expected of a Fleming County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Tyler Olderham and Deputy Trey Bailey on this achievement and wishing them success as they begin the next chapter of their careers serving the people of Fleming County.

A wallet belonging to Mr. Timmins has been found and turned in to the Fleming County Sheriff’s Office.

If you know Mr. Timmins or have a way to contact him, please ask him to contact our office so we can arrange for the return of his property.

Fleming County Woman Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Trafficking Drugs After Joint Investigations by Fleming & Mason Sheriffs

A former Kentucky pretrial officer was sentenced last week in Fleming Circuit Court to 15 years in prison for drug trafficking. Sara Collins pled guilty to cases in Mason and Fleming County following joint investigations by the Fleming County and Mason County Sheriffs’ offices. The cases involved controlled buys of methamphetamine through undercover informants in both counties. Her combined sentence was 15 years imprisonment.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Johnathan Gay prosecuted the cases and praised the professionalism and collaboration between Fleming County Sheriff Tim Smith and Mason County Sheriff Ryan Swolsky. “Methamphetamine is the number one abused illegal drug in our community,” Gay said. “It destroys families, frequently creates psychosis and other mental health problems, and is often mixed with other dangerous substances. It’s a close second to fentanyl in terms of the danger it poses in our communities.”

Swolsky complimented the work of Deputy Jonathan Wagner, who led the investigation in Mason, while Smith praised Chief Deputy Rob Conn’s work for the cases in Fleming. Both agreed that it’s critical for departments to work across county lines. “Unfortunately, drug trafficking doesn’t even stop at the border, much less the county line, so we have to pursue it wherever it goes," said Smith. Swolsky said: “Oftentimes it’s like a puzzle where someone in one police department has one piece, while in another county their police department has the other piece. It is important that we put those pieces together in order to solve the puzzle.”

Gay emphasized that while Collins was no longer working with pre-trial, the fact that she had been an officer previously is an indication how pervasive the addiction crisis is: “Pretrial officers interview and assess newly arrested individuals to determine release eligibility. The fact Ms. Collins was once in a role of supervising people arrested on drug charges and now has gone down this road herself emphasizes the impact drugs have in every family and sadly every profession.“
