On May 20, 2026 school library media specialists of the Hunterdon County Library Association (HCLA) hosted the annual Enthusiastic Reader Awards at the Hunterdon County Library. Member librarians and teachers nominate students who show an enthusiasm for reading and sharing books, read independently on a voluntary basis, use school and public libraries, and choose books appropriate for their interest level. Bestselling author Adam Gidwitz shared how he learned to love reading and writing. Frenchtown Bookshop’s Volumes Literary Foundation generously donated a copy of one of Gidwitz’ books for each winner as well as a gift card so students can continue to keep books in their hands.
Hunterdon County’s school library media specialists raise literacy rates by inspiring students to develop a lifelong love of reading. For many students, their love of reading starts in their school library. Without access to the space and trained professionals who develop the collections and pair students with the right books, we know interest in reading and test scores drop. Thank you to the amazing school librarians of Hunterdon County!
