One of our sweet boys is heading to his forever home this weekend, which means the baby pasture is officially retiring and the whole crew is shifting around. These little guys are growing up so fast and already getting their wing feathers, which means it is officially time to upgrade their setup. Hugo the dog is completely obsessed with monitoring the incubator, though we still have no idea what he thinks is hidden back there. With new ducklings hatching at the end of the week, these chicks are getting evicted to the outdoor brooder just in time.

Morning chores turned into a full nature documentary at the pond today. The water is so crystal clear that you can see right down to the feet of the paddling ducks and geese. But the real show came from the bullfrogs who are completely unfazed by the birds swimming right over them during mating season. From tiny tadpoles to massive frogs and some very worn out turkeys, the farm is absolutely teaming with life this morning.

We are doing a quick grain check in with Ladybug as we work on weaning her off the bottle. She is officially holding her own with the bigger kids and showing everyone that she is a resilient little thing who refuses to be messed with. Even though she is a baby, she has no problem pushing the big boys right out of the way to get to her food. It is clear she is ready for this next step and nature is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

Checking on the brand new baby birds in the tack room this morning with the dog crew. The weather is warming up so I had to raise the heat lamp to keep the little ones comfortable. They are adjusting well and getting active. Sadly our little turkey poult did not make it through the night but nature knows best and there was no suffering. Now it is time to feed Ladybug her warm bottle.

Getting the goats ready for the upcoming show starting with Persephone. She is my natural pig pen who loves to get into everything so a pre show wash is essential. It is forty nine degrees and miserable outside but the work has to get done four days before we load up. I am walking you through my setup with the permanent riser stand and the on demand water heater while pulling out loose cashmere and managing some mid bath bathroom breaks.

Chaos on the farm this morning! Bob decided to skip the usual grain line and jump into the rafters, getting himself tangled up in the bird netting. After a quick rescue, he is perfectly fine, but he definitely turned chore time into an unexpected adventure. Checking in on the farm on a partly sunny afternoon after a lot of rain. The baby goats are keeping everyone busy, especially Ladybug who is making great progress cutting back on her bottle feedings. Fanta the fourteen year old goat is on a watch list today because she seems a little off, and the herd is giving her some space. Plus, Tonka makes a surprise appearance out in the field.

Angry Chickens and a Tiny Turkey Fighter

The ducklings have all gone to their new homes, leaving a brooder full of busy little chicks. Some of these day-old babies are already growing pin feathers and perfected the art of the dramatic face-plant nap. Meanwhile, we are keeping a close watch on a very weak turkey poult in the incubator, giving them every single chance to pull through from a tough hatch.
