The Flemington Corn, Tomato & Beer Festival returns to Historic Main Street today, Saturday, August 8, from 12–8 PM!

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE REMINDER
Main Street will be closed from Church Street to Capner Street from 7 AM–11 PM. Please plan ahead and use alternate routes.

Flemington OEM Supports Clean and Safe Waterways

The Flemington Borough Office of Emergency Management is proud to support the Borough’s efforts to protect our community, environment, and local waterways.

Residents and businesses are reminded that storm drains are intended for stormwater not waste. Discharging domestic sewage, process wastewater, industrial waste, or other pollutants into the Borough’s stormwater system is prohibited.

Preventing stormwater pollution is an important part of protecting public health, reducing environmental hazards, and strengthening our community’s overall resilience.

Please review and share the attached official notice for additional information about prohibited connections, improper waste disposal, and permitted exceptions.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms may bring damaging winds, heavy rain, flash flooding, large hail, frequent lightning, and the possibility of an isolated tornado. A Flood Watch is in effect from 12:00 PM today through 2:00 AM Sunday.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge phones and essential devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather. Never drive through flooded roads or around barricades.

Continue to monitor official weather updates and Flemington Borough notifications. Move indoors immediately if a warning is issued or threatening weather approaches.

Dangerous heat and humidity will impact Flemington Borough this week. Temperatures will continue rising today and are expected to peak Wednesday, with afternoon highs near 100 degrees and heat index values potentially reaching 100 to 109 degrees. Hot conditions are expected to continue through Friday.

The Flemington Free Public Library, located at 118 Main Street, will be available as a cooling center during the following hours:

Tuesday: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Wednesday: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Thursday: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned locations, and check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may need assistance. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

The sky may become hazy due to Canadian wildfire smoke. Smoke may begin reaching ground level late Wednesday. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible.

The threat for severe weather and flash flooding impacting Flemington and the surrounding Hunterdon County area today into Monday have increased.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for central and northern portions of the region. Heavy rainfall may develop later today and continue into Monday, with rainfall rates that could exceed 2 inches per hour in stronger storms. These rainfall rates can quickly lead to flash flooding, especially in poor drainage areas, low-lying roadways, and locations that typically flood during heavy rain.

The threat for severe weather also continues this afternoon and evening. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are possible. Any stronger storms may produce:

Damaging winds
Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning
Very heavy rainfall
Localized flash flooding

A Heat Advisory also remains in effect today, with heat index values expected to reach 100 to 105 degrees in many locations. Residents should limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and take breaks in air conditioning when possible.

Please use caution if traveling later today. Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown. Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and be prepared to move indoors quickly if storms approach.

Flemington Fireworks Weather Update

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Hunterdon County. Storms are expected to move through the area until approximately 8:30 PM.

Those already at Reading-Fleming Intermediate School should return to their vehicles or seek shelter inside the school if directed by public safety personnel. Please avoid open fields, tents, trees, fences, and metal objects during lightning.

If you have not arrived yet, please wait until the weather passes before coming to the event.

Current timing indicates the storms should clear by approximately 8:30 PM, which should allow for a favorable fireworks launch window once conditions are safe.

Flemington OEM is reminding residents that an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect, with very hot and humid conditions expected through Friday.

Updated forecast for Flemington:

Wednesday, July 1: 95 degrees
Thursday, July 2: 101 degrees
Friday, July 3: 100 degrees

Heat index values may reach 100 to 110 degrees.

Cooling centers are available for anyone who needs relief from the heat.

Cooling center only. Borough Hall will be closed for regular Borough business due to the observed holiday.

Call 9-1-1 immediately for signs of heat stroke or a medical emergency.
