Domestic violence doesn’t always leave visible bruises. It can take many forms, including physical abuse, emotional manipulation, intimidation, financial control, and threats. It affects individuals and families from all walks of life, often behind closed doors.

Throughout October, the Flemington Borough Police Department joins communities across the nation in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and reminding those experiencing domestic violence that you are not alone.

THE STATISTICS ARE ALARMING

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), national survey data reveals:

⚫️ 43.5 million women and 20.7 million men in the United States have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

⚫️ 6.7 million women and 2.8 million men experienced at least one of these forms of intimate partner violence in the 12 months preceding the survey.

⚫️ 22.5% of women and 13.7% of men have experienced physical violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY

Our officers recognize that responding to domestic violence requires more than enforcing the law. It requires compassion, understanding, and a commitment to protecting those who may be experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

No one should have to live in fear within their own home. We want every member of our community to know that help is available and that seeking assistance is a sign of courage.

A message from Chief Jerry Rotella:

As we reflect this evening on the 25th anniversary of September 11th, we pause to remember the lives taken, the families forever changed, and the courage shown by so many. We honor the first responders who ran toward danger and those who continue to serve today. Here in Flemington, we stand together with gratitude, unity, and resolve. May we carry forward the lessons of that day: resilience, compassion, and a commitment to one another. We will never forget.
