This shot from around 1880 is one of the earliest photographs of Saginaw St. This is looking north from the middle of the 500 block - roughly in front of today's Flint Crepe Company. The hexagonal tower on the right is now the site of the Mott Foundation Building, and the building on the left with the Foote Photographs mural still stands and is now the Community Foundation Building with The District on the ground floor. Wagons and carriages line the streets, including several that are mounded high with hay.

Did you know the Flint River has the largest number and most densely documented archaeological sites in Michigan? The Stone Street site (location marked with a blue star) was home to a 640 acre Anishinabe reservation.

These families' ancestors reside on the existing reservation in Mt. Pleasent known as the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan.

We understand the complex, painful history of the land we reside on, and we are grateful to those who continue to preserve its history.

Today, October 4th at approximately 2:20pm FEMA and the FCC will be testing the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts systems.

This means that any cell phone that is switched on and connected to a cell tower will likely receive and alert and message like: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

Alerts will also come over broadcast media such as radio and television during this time period.

Please remember this is just a test and to not be alarmed. This testing allows FEMA to ensure a resilient emergency communications system for use during disasters and emergencies.
