Happy EMS Week!
This week holds special significance in n my life. Because, I joined the Fenton Township Fire Department @ 18 years old. I remember that first Repeater Pager, I loved it. Popping the tones for a good call hours later. Fenton Township, under the late Chief John Moulton was my first viewpoint of Emergency Response leadership, and he was good, respected, tough. They trained me… first Fire 1 & 2, then MFR finally EMT & Paramedic @ the prestigious Genesys EMS under Dominic Foster…. And I crushed it.
I proved to be a smart and capable Paramedic, and it was the one thing in my life that I ever truly felt great at. To work under pressure and save a life is an experience that shapes you, builds you up. To lose a life often does the opposite, but you do it because it’s in your character to do so. To try.
I can still remember running Reginal EMS lights and sirens on Halloween wearing a Hockey mask with the windows down and the radio up SCREAMING @“I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY ARE PAYING US FOR THIS!!!”. I’m running out of Flushing…. Yup, w/ Joe Karlichek and you KNOW we had an iron on those uniforms daily too! Ha.
I’d never had such pride, and it has been the Honor of my life to wear the cadusa in my heart.
When I became a Paramedic I took a job working for SWARTZ Ambulance, and I learned so much, a lot about death and how to respect it.
About a year later, that same Dominic Foster and Joe karlichek changed my life forever when they invited me to become a part of a little company called
STAT EMS, Inc., which spent the bulk of its 23 years years doing (mostly) great things out of Downtown Flint City.
I am forever GREATFUL for the opportunity and the lessons learned over a 23 year ride @ STAT EMS… I miss it. It was a whole career in providing clinically advanced, top care & service, strategic and responsible EMS Solutions to both Municipalities, Hospitals, ECF/SNF and directly to the consumer in Genesee, Saginaw, Flint City, Fenton and surrounding communities. I Loved It. 🥰
There is a special place in my heart ❤️ for every person, clinician, officer, community leader, community members and patient. I have met during the last 31 years of my life!
I Love the collective ‘Emergency Medical Services’, and THANK YOU ALL FOR WHAT YOU DO! You are seen, you are valued and on this Spring Week in May, you are CELEBRATED!
Thank You For Your Service
