Rotary and ShelterBox celebrate the power of partnership

Today's message from President George....

Greetings Flint Rotarians,

I hope you are all safe and well! It is June and it’s Rotary’s Fellowships Month.

We are in Phase 4 of the State reopening, so we are still running the Zoom meetings for our regular Friday meetings. Today we welcome Bill Tobin who is the Ambassador for ShelterBox. ShelterBox has partnered with Rotary to provide relief to families, worldwide, by providing emergency shelters and other essentials after a disaster has struck. Bill will update us this important partnership. Click her to read about the partnership. https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-and-shelterbox-celebrate-power-partnership

Evanston Ill., Rotary International announced on 3 June a three-year partnership renewal with its disaster relief project partner, ShelterBox. For almost 20 years, this unique humanitarian alliance has supported families with a place to call home after disaster.

It's May and it is Rotary's Youth Service month.

Last week we featured Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson who talked about the County's response to the COVID outbreak. It was a great presentation and very well attended. We had 53 participants which is definitely a record for our Zoom meetings.

Friday's Zoom meeting will feature Hurley Medical Center's ER physician Dr. James Weber giving us more insight on how the virus has been affecting our community and our hospitals response to it. This should be very interesting, and I hope you will consider inviting a guest.

Stay safe and we’ll see you on Friday at noon!

From our President George....

It’s May (yea!) and it's Rotary’s Youth Service month.

While we are still dealing with the Corona Virus, it appears to be receding a bit, but we are still not out of the woods yet. Stay vigilant and safe.

As a result, we are still meeting via Zoom and have another meeting scheduled for this Friday May 1, 2020. I am excited to announce that we will be hosting Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson. I’m sure he will be bringing us up to date with the latest response to the virus in Genesee County. This would be a perfect opportunity to invite a guest to be part of the meeting. Visit our website at www.flintrotary.org for the Zoom meeting link. Let’s support our Sheriff and have a great turnout for him!

For those who missed it, we just held our first Rotary Club of Flint meeting using the Zoom video conferencing platform. After a few weeks of quarantines and social distancing, it was great to see so many smiling Rotarians together again...virtually. But we’d love to connect with even more of you! Members, watch your email for future meeting invites. For tutorials on how to use Zoom, check out the online Help Center at https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us. Stay safe and be well!

Greetings Rotarians,
We met as a board yesterday in an on-line video conference to discuss the continuation of in-person meetings. The board collectively decided that we will postpone all meetings up to and including Friday, April 10th. The board will meet again during the week of April 6 to evaluate the situation. We will be sure to keep the membership informed of our future recommendations.
Please be sure to keep in mind the Four Way Test as it focuses on Truth, Fairness, Goodwill and Friendship. Staying in touch with family and friends by phone or social media will provide support and keep us moving forward as we journey through this difficult time together.

President George

Fellow Rotarians,

RE: ROTARY MEETING CANCELLED TODAY, MARCH 13TH

In response to concerns of potentially spreading the Covid 19 virus and our club policy of cancelling our meeting if the Flint Community Schools are closed for emergency purposes, we are cancelling today's regular meeting. Some of our members do not always see these emails so I would ask that if you know a member to contact them and let them know there will be no meeting today.

The board will be meeting next Wednesday the 18th. We will discuss our plans in regards to a continuation of meetings or whether we will follow the response to Covid 19 by the schools and not meet as a large group for a month. I would like to get your feedback on this topic so please contact me or one of your board members to express your opinion.

Thank you,

George Ananich
President 2019-2020

General information

The Rotary Club of Flint was organized on April 7, 1916. The club has grown from 23 charter members to now 135 men and women representing the business, professional and organizational leadership of the community. A tradition of significant speakers, at the club's weekly meetings, has been a hallmark of Flint Rotary. With this in mind, and with an abundance of good food and fellowship found at our meetings, please consider attending as a guest or visiting Rotarian.
