What a great way to spend a Friday night! Although the Firebirds didn't quite pull off a win, we had a lot of fun. Let's do it again sometime!

12/14/2022
This Friday’s program will feature the MasterSingers, a special catered lunch from the Local Grocer, and the results of the December Joke Duel. It’s our last meeting of the month- so we’ll celebrate birthdays- and is also the last meeting of the year. We will be off site for this Friday’s meeting at Mott Community College Regional Technology Center (located on Horrigan Dr. at Longway Blvd). We will be in room 1301.

We have exactly ONE more meeting at the Food Bank left this calendar year, before moving off site for two special meetings (the Economic Forum at Northbank Center on December 9 and the annual holiday program with the MasterSingers at Mott College’s Regional Technology Center on December 16.)
This week we will have an interactive program, so I hope that you not only come, but bring your creativity. After sharing some context related to club trends and the recent member survey about preferences on things like meeting days and format, we will draw on your expertise in the room and on Zoom to devise some engaging, fun, and meaningful alternative meetings/activities to try over the next few months. The ultimate aim is to increase participation by current Rotarians and appeal to potential new members.
As an added bonus, this Friday brings the return of the Joke Duel, so you won’t want to miss it!

This Friday, August 19th meeting is a not-to-be missed occasion for two reasons. The first is that we will welcoming our very own Mike Chaffee for his official club visit as District Governor. Check out this link for more info about our DG! https://rotary6330.org/Stories/meet-the-governor. This presents the opportunity to think about Rotary from a bird’s eye view and how what we are working toward in our own club fits in with larger trends and challenges in our district and across the globe. As we continue to try to adapt our own club to meet the needs of today and the future, DG Mike’s presentation is sure to provide more food for thought. The board and I welcome your thoughts about what we can be doing to continue to make Rotary a fulfilling experience for you.
The other reason to plan to attend is that we will have our first ever Joke Duel! That’s right- we will have two Rotarians go head-to-head with their best joke, and you will determine the winner with your dollars in the red cup. (For those who are participating by Zoom or who don’t carry cash, you can vote by clicking on the PayPal donation button on our website and putting the name of your jokester in the memo line.) The prevailing joke will be announced next week.
We will also be introducing our newest member this Friday, so I hope you can join us as we Imagine Rotary!

We had a terrific speaker today- Linnell Jones-McKenney. Did you know she is Flint's first professional women's basketball player and once scored 84 points in a game? As a kid, she played basketball on the "boys" team because there wasn't one for girls. She overcame bullying and claimed her dream, working tirelessly to make it a reality. Now she supports young people at the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village as they pursue their own dreams.

Greetings Rotarians!
As we return from the Independence Day holiday and begin a new Rotary year, I want to start by thanking Past President Kyle McCree for guiding our club in what was an unconventional time. A year ago, we were still meeting only by Zoom. He guided us through a critical transition point and positioned us to move forward with greater engagement, fellowship, and service opportunities.
I hope you will join us this Friday, July 8 either in-person or by Zoom. This week's meeting will focus on the internal life of our club - where we are headed and how you can be involved in club service, philanthropy, and fun. We will also induct the new board, honor a Paul Harris Fellow, and welcome a new Rotarian!

As Rotarians, we can always look for opportunities to build goodwill and better friendships during this time. Helping one another to understand those beliefs and experiences that we hold sacred can help us get to know one another on a more personal level.
We will NOT be meeting at the Food Bank this week for a regular meeting. However, we will have a noon fellowship/makeup meeting at the White Horse. If you are planning to attend, please email me at [email protected] or text me at 810-624-7868 to RSVP.
Thanks and continue to serve to changes lives.
Yours in Rotary,
Kyle McCree

You might be aware that our club’s commitment to Service Above Self is carried out in part through philanthropic support to great projects in our community. The Flint Public Library Transformed was the recipient of a $25,000 grant from our club’s Charitable Foundation. The Meeting Room in the Children’s Learning Center will be known as the Rotary Club of Flint Room. Thank you for your ongoing investment in Flint Rotary!
For many of us, our local library was a place that we could travel around the world, back in history or even venture into the unknown of the future all without leaving our hometowns. Libraries, and in particular the Flint Public Library, have evolved in recent years to play an even more vital role in the fabric of a community. Along with book clubs, students researching book reports and summer reading programs, you will also find adults learning basic computer skills, people searching for jobs and community groups building goodwill and better friendships at the Flint Public Library.
