We provide an opportunity to serve the local community, state, and country part-time (typically one-weekend per month and two-weeks in the summer). This allows members to serve their country, while enabling them to focus full-time on an education or chosen civilian profession. In return for their service, members receive competitive pay and paid/certified job training in many different skills. Oth

er benefits include paid civilian education, savings plan and a retirement pension. Regardless of their job in the Guard, members stand ready at a moment's notice to protect the lives and property of Michigan citizens during a natural disaster or civil disturbance. This includes assisting first responders like ambulances, police and firefighters. Clearing roads, managing evacuation routes, search and rescue missions, providing food, water, and shelter are just a few of the things that may be expected of a local National Guard Citizen-Soldier. In addition to this responsibility, we also have a commitment to defend our nation during times of war or national emergencies. National Guard Soliders have served in every major conflict in American history from the American Revolution to the present.

A community HERO! Thank you BB

The Flint community has lost one of our most steadfast advocates today. Bryant “BB” Nolden embodied community service. His journey from educator to public servant to non-profit leader impacted thousands of people throughout our community; most importantly, our youth. While his absence will be deeply felt across Flint, we will not forget the passion and spirit that he shared with us.

The flags at Flint City Hall will be lowered to half-staff for the remainder of this week in BB's honor.
