Farmers Markets at the Capitol returns Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing. Hosted by the Michigan Farmers Market Association, this event celebrates Michigan farmers, local food, agricultural products, and farmers' markets while highlighting the importance of supporting local agriculture.

Visitors can enjoy fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, meat, jams, food trucks, and more.

Today, we celebrate Conservation District Day in Michigan and 89 years of local conservation leadership. Thank you to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for again recognizing this day with a proclamation.

Since 1937, Conservation Districts have worked alongside farmers, landowners, and communities to protect Michigan’s soil, water, wildlife habitat, and working lands.

Thank you to the boards, staff, and partners who continue moving conservation forward across the state.

Harmful algal blooms can develop when excess nutrients, like phosphorus and nitrogen, enter lakes and waterways through stormwater runoff.

These blooms can affect water quality, aquatic ecosystems, recreation, and in some cases, people and pets. Conservation practices like healthy soil, cover crops, wetland protection, and shoreline buffers can help reduce runoff before it reaches the water.

Last week, we had the opportunity to partner with Eaton Conservation District on their Conservation Carnival event. This fun event helps bring the important work of Conservation Districts to the local community and teaches about conservation science in a fun way. A big shout-out to Eaton's Executive Director, Rachel Murray, and all the staff for a fantastic job organizing and coordinating this event for the third year in a row.

Some fun facts about this event:

3,821 fans attended the game. (that’s 400 more than last year)
Between 150 - 304 visitors were counted at each game booth on average.
25 conservation-themed game booths were hosted by our amazing partners and volunteers (not including the information booth, prize table, cake, or cotton candy).
74 volunteers and participants helped bring the event to life

This week’s Conservation District Spotlight features Calhoun Conservation District and its work to support landowners, communities, and natural resource stewardship across Calhoun County.

Calhoun CD offers local programs and services focused on soil health, water quality, invasive species management, habitat improvement, environmental education, and hands-on conservation support.

A recent highlight includes their partnership with the Fredonia Township Fire Department to complete a 10-acre prescribed prairie burn at Jenney Woods Nature Area. The project supports native habitat, prairie health, and long-term stewardship of local natural spaces.

4:00–4:30 PM: Unload Supplies (Charlotte office)
Help return supplies after the event.
