The August Mayor’s Update is Here!

There’s a lot happening in Floodwood this August! Check out the latest Mayor’s Update for news, community highlights, and upcoming opportunities.

This month’s update includes:

Local Housing Trust Fund Opportunity – Eligible Floodwood homeowners may qualify for assistance with needed home improvements through a deferred loan with no monthly payments. Funds are limited, so residents interested in the program are encouraged to learn more and apply soon.

National Night Out – A look back at a wonderful evening at the Riverwalk Pavilion that brought neighbors, local organizations, law enforcement, EMS, churches, and community partners together for food, fun, fellowship, and community connection.

A Fresh New Look at City Hall – New handcrafted cedar planters, landscaping, flowers, and our new Little Free Library are helping brighten up City Hall! We’re grateful to everyone who contributed their time, talent, funding, and donations to make these improvements possible.

📚 A New Chapter Begins in Floodwood! 📚

We're excited to announce the addition of the City of Floodwood Little Free Library!

Whether you're looking for your next great read, hoping to introduce a child to the joy of books, or simply passing by, we invite you to stop and take a look.

📚 Share a book.
❤️ Or simply enjoy a good read.

There's no obligation to leave a book, but donations are always appreciated and help keep our little library stocked for readers of all ages.

You'll find our Little Free Library outside Floodwood City Hall, and we hope it becomes a place where our community can discover new stories, share favorite books, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.

🌸 City Hall Has a Fresh New Look! 🌸

If you've driven by Floodwood City Hall recently, you've probably noticed a few exciting improvements!

Thanks to the support of the Floodwood City Council, and a generous contribution from the City of Floodwood Employees' Union, City Hall has received several beautiful updates that make it an even more welcoming place for residents and visitors.

A special thank you goes to Public Works Director Rick Gill, who designed and handcrafted the beautiful cedar planter boxes that now surround City Hall. Rick didn't stop there—he also surprised everyone with a custom-built Little Free Library, giving residents another great reason to stop by and share a good book!

We'd also like to recognize Public Works Director Rick Gill and Public Works Laborer Matt Karasek for moving the planter boxes into place, spreading fresh mulch, and pulling the entire project together. Their hard work and attention to detail helped transform the City Hall grounds into a more attractive and welcoming space for everyone.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to Clerk Melinda Felknor and Councilor Maureen Johnston, who volunteered their time to purchase, plant and help care for the flowers. Their efforts have added a vibrant splash of color that truly brightens City Hall.

Projects like this are possible because of dedicated employees, supportive elected officials, and volunteers who care deeply about our community. We are grateful to everyone who helped make this project a reality!

🌼 And we're not done yet! Watch for another update later this fall after the City Hall parking lot is repaved. We also have plans for at least one more custom planter in the seating area to further enhance the entrance and create an even more inviting space for residents and visitors.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this project a reality. We hope you'll stop by, take a look, borrow a book from the Little Free Library, and enjoy the new landscape! 🌺📚

Need to Make Repairs to Your Home? The City of Floodwood May Be Able to Help!

The City of Floodwood Local Housing Trust Fund is now accepting applications from eligible homeowners for deferred payment home improvement loans designed to help preserve and improve owner-occupied homes throughout our community. The program supports housing rehabilitation and preservation and is funded through a partnership between the City of Floodwood and Minnesota Housing.

Program Highlights:
• Up to 80% of eligible project costs (maximum $10,000)
• No monthly loan payments
• Funding available for projects that improve health, safety, accessibility, and home preservation
• First-come, first-served while funding is available
• Owner-occupied homes within the City of Floodwood may qualify (income limits apply).

Examples of eligible projects may include:
🔨Roof repairs
🪟 Window and door replacement
♿ Accessibility improvements
🔥 Safety-related repairs

A deferred payment loan means you do not make monthly payments. The loan is repaid only if the home is sold, transferred, refinanced, or is no longer your primary residence.
