Reminder to everyone that all outdoor burning in Lane County ended on 5/31/2026 at 6pm. Burning after the burning season closes is a violation of LRAPA regulations and may result in fines ranging from $100 to $1000 per violation. Persons responsible for starting a wildfire may also be liable for suppression costs under Oregon Law.

LRAPA encourages residents to consider utilizing alternatives to burning which includes chipping, mulching, or composting yard debris rather than burning. Chipping and mulching convert woody yard waste into a resource good for w**d suppression, moisture retention, and soil improvement. Lane Forest Products, Rexius, and County transfer stations all accept yard debris and wood waste.

After a rather dry winter, Oregon recorded its lowest measurement for snow pack this year. Yesterday WLFEA teamed up with the Oregon Department of Forestry to commence a wildfire training incident prior to the upcoming fire season. Firefighters practiced structural protection and firefighting operations along with the use of drones and air drops at Chief Chance’s compound.

Oregon has the one of the highest fatality rates for motor vehicle crashes in the US. WLFEA is so grateful that DPSST came out and coordinated a vehicle extrication training on 5/28 and 5/29. Our responders trained on patient access and removal techniques to better our service to the community. We want to give a big thank you to Sherwood Like a Tow for providing all the vehicles!
