(2)

A program of the National Park Service, MSNHA preserves & promotes cultural & natural resources in northwest Alabama's six counties: Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone & Morgan. Part of the National Park Service’s National Heritage Areas program, MSNHA helps promote cultural tourism through education, preservation & conservation in the six northwest Alabama counties of the Tennesse

e River basin: Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone & Morgan. We focus on historic & natural stories as we inform, educate, develop & interpret visitor-ready sites to chronicle the evolution of the area’s landscape, extending these opportunities to the largest audience possible. Local artist and University of North Alabama grad Lacey Gross led workshop participants through the fundamentals of landscape sketching Sunday morning at the standpipe in Sheffield. Co-hosted by Shoals RiverTown & Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, the workshop helped foster closer observation & thoughtful composition of our natural landscape.

Fifty-three years ago, in July 1973, Bob Dylan came to the Shoals for the first time to produce an album by his former touring keyboardist Barry Goldberg. Seeking to avoid publicity, Dylan asked local reporter Dick Cooper not to photograph him during the sessions at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. But as Cooper recalls in this 2018 MSNHA interview, Dylan’s co-producer Jerry Wexler prodded him into trying anyway.
