Our crew will be making repairs to our water main on County Road 14 at Brush Creek Park. Some residents will experience low pressure while others will have no water service. This should take the crew a few hours to make repairs and flush lines afterwards.
Thank you for your patience while we work.

OUTAGE UPDATE
Friday December 30

Thank you for your patience while we contiune to work to restore water service to all residents of the West Lauderdale Water system.
We know this is an inconvience for everyone who is experiencing no water or low pressure.
We had hoped to have the water back on to all residents as of 10:00 am this morning but, as some of you are aware that did not happen. We still have many residents without water.

The tanks are beginning to recover but this is a slow process, you can only put so much water through a 6, 8 or 10" pipe and the pumps are working at capacity again.
We have reached out to every resource at our disposal and working together we will get this issue resolved and behind us.
We made every prepration possible to prevent this from happening but this has been an unprecendented event that has stressed every water system in some way and some worse then others.

We are a small operation and every man, woman and board member here appreciates you as our customer. We strive to keep yours and our water flowing into our homes and businesses at all times, and we will continue to work until that happens.
We will update you when we have anything new to report.

Thank you again for your help and patience.

WATER OUTAGE UPDATE
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 29

IT HAS BECOME NECESSARY FOR SEVERAL OF OUR PUMP STATIONS TO BE TURNED OFF!

This will create a widespread outage. Please, check your water meter if you have no water. The first step is to determine if you have a leak, if you do have a leak, turn your water meter off.
If you do not have a leak then you may be in the area of the outage.
The following list is only a partial list of the roads that will be affected. If you live on these roads or you are in near proximity to these roads you will be affected.
If you have a water outage and you are not in the affected area please contact our office at 256-766-8787. If you see water along the road or in low area, please call our office and report this as well.

Please take precautions with any device in your home that uses water and would be damaged with no water, such as hot water heaters and ice makers ect...

We apologize for the inconvience to our customers, but please know we are doing everything in our power to restore water to all of our customers.

The water will be off all day today, we will try to turn it back on around 5:00pm and leave it on until 7:00pm. Then it will be turned back off until the 10:00am on Friday morning.
Please be patient while our crew works through this issue.
Please pass this information along to your family, friends, and neighbors.

FROZEN PIPES

Please turn off your water! With the temperatures getting into the 50s and 60s during the day there should not be a possibility of frozen pipes. If you have frozen pipes they will be thawing out so please leave your water off until you get ready to make your repairs.
Our tanks are dangerously low and the pumps are pumping at capacity at all pump stations.
If you see water running in your area, please contact our office at 256-766-8787 anytime day or night. The office is open from 8am to 4:30pm and the after hours call system will send your call to our crew when the office is closed. Please do no tsend an email, our crew does not check the email only the emergency call will reach them.
If you have a leak and you are letting your water run out on the ground you are endangering every resident on the West Lauderdale Water system. If any employee turns your water off or ask you to turn your water and you do not, your leak insurance will be void!
Please do your part to help us get the water flowing to all of our residents!

Thank you for your cooperation during this time of need.

We are asking all of our customers to be watching for water leaks. If you have a vacant house in your neighborhood, please take a minute to see if there might be water running around that house. Contact the water department if you see anything.
If you are having low pressure please check your water meter and see if the dials are spinning when you are not using water. If you have any issue that you can not find please call the water department office and leave a message, someone will call you back.
We are experiencing dangerously low tank levels and our crews are out doing their best to try to keep as many residents with water as we can.
Please help us by being aware of your water use.
We know everyone is running water to prevent freezing in your home but, if you know you have a busted pipe and you are letting water just run out without repairing it. Please be aware that the insurance may not pay for this if you are not taking the necessary steps to stop your leak.
Please help us serve you and all of our customers by being responsible with your leak.
Thank you for your help and cooperation while we all do our best to get through this time.

With the incoming cold front make sure your home or business is prepared. This will be the coldest air at Christmas since 1989. Here in Jackson we are looking at sub freezing temps for over 100 hours. I don’t claim to be an expert but over 32 years in the local water department I’ve seen a lot of buildings flood in cold weather.

1. Make sure your foundation vents and crawl spaces are closed.

2. Make sure your water hoses are disconnected from the outside hydrants.

3. Cover your outside hydrants. Those insulated fiberglass covers at Lowes work just fine. Stuff a couple of old washcloths inside them for good measure.

4. Open your doors underneath your sinks.

5. Let some faucets drip. Doesn’t matter how many, but make sure at least one of them (preferably farthest from the water heater) is a hot water faucet. And don’t just let it drip, let it be almost a stream. This is especially important if your water heater is in your attic or garage. This will keep water moving through all of your hot and cold plumbing. Don’t worry about a little higher water bill. It will be cheaper than the insurance deductible.

6. If you have exposed pipes in your attic or garage wrap them. You can get that at Lowes too.

7. Know where your water meter is and know how to turn the water off! Knowing the location of the meter box will help both you and us if the ground is covered in snow.

8. Know the contact number for your local utility in case of emergency. And be patient. They may be flooded with calls. That’s why #7 is important.

9. This one is for my fire fighting friends. Don’t leave a space heater somewhere unattended trying to keep pipes from freezing.

I’ve had many questions about #5. The answer is yes, drip the hot water. Dripping the cold is only keeping water moving in half of your plumbing. Dripping the hot side is moving the cold side through your heater and then through the hot side of the plumbing. The water sitting in your hot water pipes is not hot. It’s only hot inside the water heater. Water sitting still is what freezes. And no, you will not run out of hot water.

Copied, please take precautions in this cold weather and stay safe!
