Due to an overwhelming response from those in our community who wish to participate, registration has been extended and will remain open through the weekend.
There is no fee and no need to register if you plan to watch the parade, but if you plan to walk or ride in the parade, there is a $20 fee with discounts available for groups of 7 or more.
Please be aware that T-Shirts are no longer included with your registration.

Jim Green has dedicated 12 years to helping those who are unable to read achieve their reading goals!

Congratulations to our dear friend, Jim Green for 12 years of service as Executive Director of Northwest Alabama Reading Aides!

NARA's primary goal is to teach the illiterate to read in a comfortable, one-to-one atmosphere. Over the years, the agency has expanded to include teaching English as a second language and tutoring stroke survivors. All tutoring is free and confidential.

NARA's office is on the corner of Hermitage Drive and Seminary Street, across from Pope's Tavern. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer tutor, if you know of someone in need of reading assistance, or if you just want to learn more, please call 256-766-5709 or stop by Monday through Thursday from 10:00 - 3;00.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Jen Tester and B.J. Harris had been living in Fort Myers, Florida, for seven years, where they both worked in the restaurant industry.

Our AMAZING Board of Directors has challenged one another and our community to help CLEAR THE WAITLIST of children waiting to enroll in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
This program is free for enrollees but does cost United Way of Northwest Alabama $30 per year for one child to receive a free book each month.

Saturday, April 23 is National Teach Children to Save Day! The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will celebrate with Dr. Portia Johnson and Patricia Smith presenting, 'Money Milestones for Kids and Parents'. The presentation will discuss the importance of talking about money with children and share conversations strategies for children ages 3 to age 18. This will be an online Zoom presentation and is open to all who would like to attend.

Local non-profit organizations are invited to apply for 2022 Emergency Food and Shelter Program Funding.
Applicants must be non-profit; have an accounting system and annual audit; practice non-discrimination; have demonstrated capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; able to enter client data into Charity Tracker; and have a volunteer Board of Directors.
Qualifying charities may apply for a share of these funds by visiting uwnwal.org. The applications are under the "Our Partners and Programs" tab. There is a separate application for each phase of funding and applicants who wish to apply for multiple phases, must complete each appropriate application.
