2-1-1 is an easy to remember, free, confidential call way to get help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

211 would like to share information about a cooling center available for individuals experiencing homelessness this summer.

The Shoals Shelter Summer Cooling Program will operate:

🗓️ Tuesdays & Thursdays only (beginning July 2nd)
⏰ Check-in/Pickup: 11:45 AM
📍 Central Baptist Church
1600 Huntsville Road, Florence, AL 35630
🕛 Cooling Center Hours: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

During operating hours, individuals can access a safe place to cool off, take showers, and receive meals. Case management services are also available on Saturdays at First Presbyterian Church Florence Alabama’s soup kitchen for those seeking assistance with housing, employment, and additional support services.

Today, 211 attended the Elder Abuse Conference hosted by the Colbert County Domestic Violence Response Coalition.

The conference brought together agencies and organizations from across our region, including Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments, Safeplace, Inc., Caringplace Shoals, and others, to discuss important topics affecting older adults. Presentations focused on the challenges faced by the elderly, recognizing and preventing elder abuse, and the resources and support services available to help.

During the conference, we shared information about United Way's partnership with AARP Caregiver Support Program, highlighting resources available to family caregivers and the role 211 plays in connecting individuals to local services and support.

Thank you to the Colbert County Domestic Violence Coalition for hosting this important event and for bringing our community together to raise awareness and strengthen support for older adults throughout Northwest Alabama.

Our friends at Community Harvest Initiative are hosting their first fresh produce giveaway on Sunday, June 14th, beginning at 2 PM until all produce is gone. First come, first served.
