A public service announcement -

You may have noticed an increased law enforcement presence around FHS and FMS this afternoon. In conjunction with the Williamson County OEM, Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM), Constable Precinct 3 and Williamson County Emergency Communications we conducted a limited emergency management exercise in conjunction with a real world event

This exercise allows us to evaluate and test response capabilities should there be an incident in our area. As part of the exercise, a command post was activated at the Florence PD, staffed by Wilco OEM and TDEM specialists.

Additionally, the Wilco Emergency Communications department dedicated a “tactical dispatcher” to this event. This is the first activation of a tactical dispatcher since the inception of the program. Tactical dispatchers are dedicated to assisting agencies during complex events and emergencies.

We are happy to report that all went well. We are thankful for our public safety partners for their dedication and assistance.

In the evening of Tuesday, 10 FEB 2026, immediately following the council meeting, Chief Thompson was made aware of one of our staff members having a medical emergency.

One of our officers was found semi-conscious laying on the floor in the patrol room. He was complaining of shortness of breath, chest pain as well as nausea and dizziness. Dispatch was notified of an “officer down/man down” and EMS and Fire units were dispatched along with Wilco Sheriff’s Deputies. Florence PD staff rendered aid along with members of the public.

The officer was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. We will post an update as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your support and prayers.
