Archeologic news from Florence!
🎉 Exciting News from GSAR! 🎉
This week marks a significant milestone for us at GSAR! We're thrilled to announce that we've successfully delivered the oldest cultural component from the Gault site (dating back 20,000 – 16,000 years BP), the bulk of the Clovis component, and Archaic components from our Area 15 investigations to the Center for Archaeological Studies. 🏛️ This certified repository holds archaeological records and artifact collections in trust for the State of Texas, meeting the Federal curation standards set by 36 CFR 79. Thank you, CAS and Texas State University, for all your assistance in the historic project!

This achievement represents a monumental effort, with approximately 1.3 million artifacts (150 boxes of material), including copies of numerous theses and dissertations related to the Gault artifactual materials and data.
Getting this amount of material physically and digitally prepared for curation is a massive amount of work. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our incredible lab manager, Jennifer Gandy, and the many colleagues, interns, and volunteers who have supported us over the years. 🙌 We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our colleagues at the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory for their enormous support, which has been instrumental in completing this enormous task.
To all our friends, supporters, and members: thank you for keeping the Gault site, its story, research, and the Gault School of Archaeological Research thriving! 💫 As we celebrate this milestone, we're committed to furthering our impact in Education, Research, and Conservation.
