24 Fire Update – 03/22/2026 - this post is continually updated throughout the day for updates to ensure they are all in one spot.
4:30 pm update from Fremont County Office of Emergency Management.
Fort Carson is conducting a back burn to strengthen the southern and eastern border of the fire line. Heavy smoke and flames will be visible during this time. We want to reassure the public, that there is no cause for panic with the extra smoke and visible flames. We expect to see this throughout this evening and into tomorrow morning (3/23/26). Highway 115 will remain closed at this time due to the heavy smoke, continuing hot spots, and responder safety. Fire crews are continuing to monitor the Highway 115 corridor.
11:57 am Update from Fort Carson Official
“After Saturday’s strong winds and high temperatures, the highway 115 fire remained active throughout the night and stands at approximately 4,595 acres with 0% containment. The weather forecast for Sunday looks favorable, however, high wind activity still poses a risk to response operations. Currently, two heavy aircraft and two super scoopers are providing aerial support while 170 firefighters from local, regional and state partners are actively engaged with response operations. Ground crews are continuing to tie in and strengthen control lines while working to monitor and extinguish hot spots in the area.
We are profoundly grateful to our partners and the local community for the outpouring of support Fort Carson Fire has received since the fire began Wednesday along the east side of highway 115 and jumped onto Fort Carson Wednesday morning. While many community members have reached out regarding food and water donations, no donations are needed at this time.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.”
11:00 am - The fire is reported to have grown to 4,600 acres.
7:30 am - The fire continued moving in a northeast direction, and overnight crews made good progress. With winds expected to shift east and cooler temperatures in the forecast, today’s conditions should support continued efforts to gain ground on the fire. The fire remains at 1,927 acres with 0% containment at this time.
State Highway 115 remains closed from mile marker 18 (near K Street) to mile marker 39 in El Paso County. There is currently no estimated time for reopening. This closure is critical to ensure the safety of firefighters and allow crews to operate effectively.
At this time, no air quality alerts have been issued.
The evacuation shelter is still in place at Pathfinder Park and is open to individuals, pets, and livestock.
