With the holiday season upon us, we are reminded of all the things we are thankful for. Good health, happiness, a home, and the love of family and friends are some of the most special things we hold near and dear. This year things will look different for most of us, as many of us are forgoing our large, traditional family gatherings and celebrations due to the pandemic. Though we will miss the physical presence of our loved ones, we can always visit via FaceTime, Zoom, various other video chatting platforms, phone calls and text messages. We all look forward to the time when it is safer for us to gather our extended families in person. In the meantime, let us keep in mind that our healthcare heroes and our hospitals are quite taxed, so we must do our part in mitigating the spread of the virus. This is equally important in our efforts to keep students, staff, and teachers healthy so our schools remain open for in person learning. As you are enjoying time off from work, safe in the comfort of your home, let us give thanks for the essential workers, law enforcement, fire, EMS, nurses, and doctors who will be working through this holiday. We pray for those suffering from illness and those who provide care and comfort to them. We are all in this together and together we will get through this.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

It’s that time of year again!!!!!!

The Sheriff Santa Program is getting underway as we prepare for another successful year. Last year we delivered food baskets and gifts to almost 300 families in Wilson County.

We are taking donations of new unwrapped toys for ages newborn to 17. Donations can be dropped off at the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office anytime between December 1nd and December 12th.

Sign up will begin November 28th and end December 11th.

Our Sheriff Santa delivery crews will be out delivering December 17th & 18th.

If you know a family in Wilson County that could use a little extra help this Holiday Season, contact us at 830-393-2535 or by email at [email protected] or [email protected] and let us know the name, address, phone number (if possible), children’s ages, and gender, or if it is a food basket only (no children).

This program would not be possible without the help of everyone who donates to our cause year after year.

Monetary Donations can be made payable to Sheriff Santa

Wilson County Sheriff's Department will always remember Deputy Ollie F. "Sammy" Childress Jr. # 8326, one of our own and a hero to us all. Sammy valiantly gave his life in the line of duty, on November 4, 1983, while protecting and serving our county. Thank you for your service, Sammy ~ we will never forget you, brother.

Good afternoon Wilson County
Let’s talk…. (and please read…)
Over the past couple of years, the WCSO has seen an increase in internet-related offenses. Internet-related offenses, you ask???? …. These range from identity theft to online solicitation of a child. A growing trend has been the unmonitored use of social media by our youth. Parents are giving their children a phone, a tablet/PC, or gaming console and telling them to go have fun. We are all guilty of this. We are not writing this from only a law enforcement officials’ point of view, but also as a parent. As said before we are all parents.
The social media world is ever-changing. Tech companies are always trying to come out with the latest and greatest application. As parents, we need to be vigilant more than ever. What we mean is we must be involved with our child not only off-line but online as well.
When a child (3yo-17yo) is given a device with internet access, they are being thrown into the deep end of the pool without knowing how to swim and no flotation device. Almost any device with an internet connection has the potential to allow someone to communicate with your child. Most of your gaming platforms (console/PC/cell phone/tablet) have some form of chat or other types of communication. These can be exploited by someone wanting to harm your child. Parents have to be able to access their child’s social media as well as gaming accounts. VR goggles are a new form of access. Most of these were developed for gaming and fun, but they are now used for illegal activity. It is the parent's choice whether or not to allow a child to have a social media account or play games online.
There is a lot of information about what apps are out in cyberspace. Take the time in your social media and inform yourself. You may just save your child or someone else’s.

While having lunch at Aurelia's, a gentleman came up to our table and handed us a note. He thanked us for our service. Simple gestures like this remind us why we chose this career. People like him and his family are the reason we protect and serve our community. Thank you citizens of Wilson County.
