The annual 5K Run and Kid’s K is on Saturday, Nov. 7! Join us at Bakersfield Park (1201 Duncan Ln.) to raise money for the Texas Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of former Town employee Dorothy Walkup.

On race day, all the fun kicks off with warm-up activities at 7:45 a.m., followed by the Kid’s K at 8 a.m., and the 5K Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. After the run, stick around for music, refreshments, and awards. 👟🥇

Join us for the Make Your Mark immersive art experience in honor of November Arts Month! On Saturday, Nov. 7, drop by the Community Activity Center (1200 Gerault Rd.) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help us transform an entire room into a community-created work of art. Draw, doodle, write, and paint on each surface to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art. As each person adds their unique touch, the room will continuously evolve, celebrating creativity, connection, and the idea that art is never truly finished.

We’re still accepting float entry applications for the Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony! 🎅✨ Be a part of this fantastic Flower Mound tradition by creating a lighted float to represent your organization, business, or neighborhood! If you’re interested, but can’t commit just yet, join us for an informational meeting next Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. at the CAC (1200 Gerault Rd.). Parks and Recreation staff will break down all the requirements, benefits, and fun that comes with participating.

This year, the Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony is on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 5-9 p.m. It will include a lighted parade to Gerault Park (1200 Gerault Rd.), live performances, children’s activities, food trucks, a community tent, and so much more! Our next Opioid Emergencies and Narcan Training class is this Wednesday, Oct. 21. Join us to learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, provide appropriate emergency care based on breathing and level of responsiveness, and administer Narcan nasal spray to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Each student will also receive a free two-dose kit of Narcan.

We are currently looking for instructors available to teach Thursday evening and/or Friday morning classes. To qualify, you must have a Water Aerobics certification and a current First Aid and CPR certification.

In one week, the Denton County India Cultural Association (DCICA), in partnership with the Town, is hosting Diwali: Festival of Lights! 🕯️ The traditional Indian holiday celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and strength over fear. On Saturday, Oct. 24, from 4-9 p.m., stop by the Gerault Park Fields (1116 Gerault Rd.) for dance performances, Indian cuisine and street food, vendor booths and much more. The Town will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 8. 🇺🇸 Ahead of the ceremony, join us for a family picnic from 1-2 p.m. with free hot dogs, cake, and lemonade at the Flower Mound High School (3411 Peters Colony Rd.) football stadium. Following the picnic, the ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. with a veterans review, remarks from local leaders, patriotic music, and more.

Ahead of the ceremony, we’re looking for local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and ROTC units to take part in the veterans review. To participate, the groups will parade in uniform before the veterans. There are only a handful of openings left in our next American Red Cross BLS r.25+Narcan class for healthcare workers. The class is on Friday, Oct. 16, from 2-4:45 p.m. at the CAC (1200 Gerault Rd.). It will cover in-depth techniques for healthcare workers and first responders, including bag-valve-mask, ventilation, leadership team dynamics, and critical thinking for improved outcomes. At the conclusion of the class, each student will receive a free two-dose Narcan kit and will have met all AHA guidelines for CPR/ECC and OSHA 2-year certification.
