This is an entry point training opportunity. Become involved in Citizen Science phenology observations. Collect and report the life cycle (initial growth, leaves, buds, flowers and seeds) from your choice of 29 Texas native host and nectar plants for pollinators. Free training, application, and resources. Join us and enjoy monitoring and documenting native plant growth in your garden or local native plant patch at least once a week.

Flower Mound Launches Tree Rebate Program

Following approval from Flower Mound Town Council, the Town’s new Tree Rebate program is now available to Flower Mound residents. Residents who make a qualifying tree purchase between Oct. 1, 2025 to May 1, 2026 may receive a rebate from the Town. To qualify for the rebate, the purchased tree must be at least five (5) gallons or larger when purchased and must be chosen from the approved tree list. That list can be found at https://tinyurl.com/yzrr4j75 .

Milkweed Programs & Milkweed Market

Monarchs Need Milkweed. Monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed, and you can get milkweed plants from Monarch Watch, possibly for free! Just choose the milkweed program that fits your situation.

Free milkweeds for habitat restoration projects

Monarch Watch will once again be distributing free milkweeds for planting in large-scale habitat restoration projects Spring 2023. Since this program began in 2015, over 731,000 milkweeds have been planted in restored habitat throughout much of the monarch breeding range. New this year, we have added several more regions in California. To qualify, applicants must have a minimum of two acres (one acre or less in California) to restore to natural, native habitat, and have a management plan in place. Milkweeds are awarded on a first come, first served basis, so apply early.

Those awarded free milkweeds need only pay shipping/handling, which is modest compared to the value of the plants. Please help us spread the word by sharing widely. For more information and to apply, please visit: https://monarchwatch.org/free-milkweed-restoration


Free milkweeds for schools and educational non-profits

Schools and educational nonprofits may apply for a free flat of native milkweeds for a public garden or habitat space. Single flats of 32 plants (58 for Texas) will be distributed to recipients in the spring, while milkweed supplies last. Monarch Conservation - YouTube

Have you been seeing more Monarch butterflies in the sky? Right now, they’re beginning their migratory route to Mexico for the winter. As they make the trip south, they’ll stop here in North Texas to fuel up on nectar plants for the journey. If you’d like to help them along the way, check out this Environmental Services video on how you can bolster their population by including specific plants in your yard or garden to help feed them.

Making A Difference for Monarch Butterflies

You are invited to an upcoming Monarch Watch program, Making A Difference For Monarchs In Your Own City! on Monday, October 03, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Flower Mound Public Library, 3030 Broadmoor Ln, Flower Mound, TX 75022.

Our presenter, Carol Clark, a Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist, will describe how anyone can design their garden in a way that supports the migration of the Monarch butterfly through North Texas. Her presentation is a scientific, fact-based explanation of the specific actions to take to provide food, water and shelter for this iconic species.
