This past weekend, the SREC met in Georgetown for their quarterly meeting.
On Friday, the Committees all met:
Officials Committee met and passed a budget for the next two years
Rules Committee met and discussed how to “clean up” the SREC Bylaws. They also addressed rules changes to require the Chairman to get approval from the Officials Committee before entering The Party into lawsuits as well as disbanding the Auxiliaries & Coalitions Committee.
Auxiliaries & Coalitions met and continues to try to decide if the RPT should officially affiliate with certain Republican organizations across the state or if such affiliation is unnecessary.
Resolutions met to consider resolutions related to:
-Complaints from some border counties about an SREC member that endorsed a Democrat candidate in the November election
-Keeping the Capitol open during the upcoming legislative session
-Preventing Texans from being mandated to vaccinate against the china virus
-Congratulating Dade Phelan on his election by the Republican Caucus as Speaker and asking him to work to pass our Legislative Priorities
-Supporting President Trump and his challenges to election fraud
Legislative Priorities (chaired by Jill) met and discussed strategy for promoting our Legislative Priorities. Tools are in development to enhance voter awareness and participation in getting these priorities passed. Also, Jill is writing a weekly report on our Legislative Priorities that you can read and sign up for here: https://www.texasgop.org/legislative-priorities-report-december-11-2020/
Election Integrity is focusing on fraud reports from across the state and recommendations to insure protection of your vote.
The Party Organization, Engagement and Candidate Resource Committees also met.
Jill joined Chairman West and Dr. Westley (RPT historian) for a press conference. Jill focused on our Legislative Priorities. Watch it here:

On Saturday, the General Session met
We elected Frank Lopez to fill a vacancy for the SREC Committeeman in SD19
Adopted the 2020-2022 budget presented by the Officials Committee. We are in the best financial shape the party has ever been in, with more than two million dollars of cash on hand and more fund raised than in past ten years if not ever.
Received the report from the Rules Committee that they had postponed consideration of the requested rules changes until more information could be gathered.
Adopted the Resolutions presented by the Resolutions Committee. Both Jill and David voted yes to all resolutions except the one congratulating Dade Phelan, due to his collaboration with Democrats to gain the Speakership. We are satisfied, however, with the resolution as it does ask for passage of our Legislative Priorities.
Approved affirming the on-going Auxiliaries presented by the Auxiliaries & Coalitions Committee
Adopted an additional resolution calling for the state legislatures of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Michigan to convene and to appoint their electors in accordance with the true vote of the people
Chairman West described new initiatives of voter engagement being pursued to the Black and Hispanic communities. Historian Dr. Westley will also work on this project.
Jill and David received key pins for meeting individual SREC fundraising goals for 2020-2021. Thank you to all from SD 12 to make that happen!
Finally, the body instructed the Chairman to create a committee to advance work to pass legislation to limit the Executive Overreach that has plagued our state throughout this year.
Our next State Republican Executive Committee meeting will be held in Laredo, in March. We are going there to build on the positives gains in Republican votes this last election in that county.
Both Jill & I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas from each of our families. Our best wishes to us all and we look forward to a happy and prosperous 2021.
A pertinent question for our state legislators is: Do Republican voters really care about the Legislative Priorities?
