Hello Producers,

Managed grazing is not just for homesteaders or small farms. It can be easily applied to any scale and intensity that works for you on your operation. It doesn’t have to be daily strip grazing, but can look like rotating every 3 days, once a week, or even monthly. The goal is to allow your pastures to rest and increase efficiency of your pastures! It’s especially beneficial in times of drought such as what we are currently experiencing.

Join us on Saturday, May 9th in Draper, VA on Honaker House Farm to gain hands-on experience assessing previously grazed strips, setting up temporary electric fence, check out different equipment and DIY solutions to making managed grazing work for you, and get a chance to learn from producers who are already utilizing managed grazing. Honaker House Farm is a cow-calf operation of about 200 head of cattle utilizing managed grazing in different capacities across their 3 herds. Come learn how their practices have evolved over the years, tips and tricks they’ve learned through trial and error, and why they choose to invest in these practices. Participants will look at a previously grazed strip, adjust strip size based on forage availability, set up fences for the next several days using weather info and other planning considerations, and move the herd! Learn by doing!

Attendees will also be given a great opportunity to reduce the barriers of startup costs for trying managed grazing!
10 producers will be chosen to try managed grazing for 3 months with borrowed equipment (over $500 value)
- 2 pre-loaded Taragate Reels w/ Powerflex PolyBraid, 50 step-in posts, and 2 sets of alligator clips
- Limited solar chargers available
**Commit to 3 months and complete a survey, you’ll get to keep at least $200 worth of equipment!
This is a great way to try managed grazing on your farm without the initial investment in equipment!
