Floyd County Public Schools is still accepting preschool applications for the upcoming school year. If your child will be turning 3 or 4 by September 30, we encourage you to apply.

Our preschool programs provide a strong foundation for learning through play, exploration, and early skill development in a caring environment.

If you have a child under 18, we invite you to stop by Floyd Elementary School for breakfast and lunch throughout the program.

*8:30-9:00 and 12:00-12:30 at Floyd Elementary School (531 Oak Hill Drive)
*Three-day meal bags (breakfast + lunch) will be provided on Thursdays
*Children must be present to pick up

Tomorrow is the last day of school!

We want to remind our families that tomorrow is also an early release day. Students at our outlying schools will be dismissed at 11:30 AM, and students at our town schools will be dismissed at 12:00 PM.

We want to thank all of our students, staff, and families for an outstanding school year. Your support and hard work made this year a success. We wish everyone in the Floyd County community a safe, happy, and relaxing summer break!

Congratulations to the Floyd County High School class of 2026!

Today is a significant milestone for our seniors as they prepare to cross the stage and begin their next chapters. We are proud of the hard work and dedication these students have shown throughout their time in our schools.

The graduation ceremony will begin at 6:00 PM tonight on Coach Beale Field. Please remember that admission is by ticket only for those attending in person. For community members and families who cannot attend the field ceremony, we extend a special thank you to Citizens Telephone Coop for providing a live broadcast.

You can watch the full ceremony on CCTV Channel 20 or on the Citizens YouTube channel. We wish our graduates the very best as they move forward and create endless possibilities for their futures!

It was a special evening yesterday as we recognized the individuals who contribute to the success of Floyd County Public Schools.

We celebrated the careers of our staff members who are retiring this year. Thank you for your service and the legacy you leave in our schools. We wish you the very best in your next chapter!

While all our school-level Teacher of the Year winners are outstanding, we are proud to officially announce our FCPS Division Teacher of the Year, Senora Faulkner, Health & Medical Sciences Teacher at FCHS!

A strong school system relies on community partnerships. Last night, we honored the local businesses named to the VSBA Business Honor Roll. Thank you to Skyline National Bank and Floyd Xpress Market for your support of our students and programs!

We are proud to announce Travis Cantrell as the new Principal of FCHS!

Mr. Cantrell is no stranger to the FCHS family. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he has served our students and staff in many capacities, from business teacher and Athletic Director to Assistant Principal. Most recently, he has shared his expertise across the division as the Director of Secondary Instruction.

Congratulations, Mr. Cantrell! We look forward to your leadership!

The celebrations continue this week! Today is National Nurses Day and we are celebrating the healthcare heroes in our hallways! Our school nurses are a key part of our FCPS family, providing much more than just bandages and ice packs. They are the frontline of student wellness, managing chronic conditions, supporting mental health, and ensuring our schools remain healthy environments where everyone can thrive.

Our gifted and enrichment students in grades 3–8 recently had an incredible day of learning and exploration!

At the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School, students participated in hands-on math and science activities that challenged their thinking and sparked curiosity across all grade levels.

The experience continued with a behind-the-scenes tour of Volvo, where students explored careers in advanced manufacturing and STEM. Seeing real-world applications in action helped students better understand how their learning today connects to future opportunities in engineering, technology, and production.

We are incredibly grateful for our partnerships with the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School and Volvo for providing such meaningful experiences for our students. Opportunities like this truly bring learning to life.
