DEP recently joined New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and Prospect Park to announce the completion of a $1.4 million valve upgrade for Prospect Park Lake. The new valve will help manage the amount of potable water & allow for greater operational control of the lake system during heavy rainstorms.

Out of the Archives: After every round of dynamite blasted another ten feet of bedrock to advance the West Delaware Tunnel, safety miners scaled loose rock from the roof to protect workers from falling debris. 44 miles long, this tunnel carries water from the westernmost reservoir in NYC’s supply system (Cannonsville) which dams the West Branch of the Delaware River. Water continues into Rondout Reservoir and then travels another 85 miles toward the City through the Delaware Aqueduct.
