Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department Responds to Aircraft Down on Interstate 78

On Saturday, April 4, 2026, at approximately 9:23 AM, Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department – along with Cetronia Ambulance Corps, Fogelsville Fire Company, Trexlertown Fire Company, Kutztown Fire Company, and Pennsylvania State Police – was dispatched to Interstate 78 Eastbound in the area of Mile Marker 45 for a report of an aircraft down.

Chief 51 arrived on scene and confirmed that a single-engine propeller aircraft had made a landing on the interstate. The highway was shut down in the affected area, and the appropriate airport authority was notified.

Weisenberg fire crews established fire protection on scene while airport operations personnel, Pennsylvania State Police, and towing services worked the incident. Crews also successfully contained a small fuel spill resulting from the incident. Mutual aid departments assisted with traffic control until long-term closure measures were established by PennDOT.

Upon conclusion of operations, Weisenberg crews provided a fire protection es**rt of the aircraft to Queen City Airport in Allentown.

This incident will be investigated and addressed by the appropriate authorities. No further updates will be issued by Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our area beginning tomorrow at 7:00am and ending Monday at 6:00am. While there are varying reports of the amount of snow we will actually see, anticipate hazardous travel conditions and impacts to local services. As always, make preparations BEFORE the weather event and do not travel unless absolutely necessary during and after the event so plow crews can make the roads safe.

🚨 Lehigh County Winter Storm Fern – Damage Reporting 🚨

Did Winter Storm Fern cause property damage at your home or business (trees down, roof damage, flooding, power-related impacts, etc.)? Please report it using our public damage reporting link so we can better track impacts countywide:

➡️ Report Damage Here: https://crisistrack.juvare.com/public/lehighPA/request.html

✅ Reporting helps Lehigh County Emergency Management understand the scope of impacts and support recovery efforts.
📸 Tip: If you can, include photos and as much detail as possible (address/location, type of damage, and when it occurred).

Stay safe—avoid downed wires, use generators outdoors only, and call 911 for emergencies.

01/26/2026

Just because the heaviest of the precipitation has ended doesn't mean that it is safe to go out. Road conditions continue to be less than ideal and plow crews need time to clear them. Do not venture out unless absolutely critical!

We also continue to monitor the dangerous cold that we will be seeing this week. Updates will be provided if needed.

01/25/2026

The EMA continues to monitor conditions and has been coordinating with the county and other municipalities as needed to ensure resources are available if needed.

Please stay off the roads if at all possible. Now is not the time to run errands or take a Sunday drive. Let the plow crews do their work. Remove vehicles from the road so plows can clear snow.

Take care when shoveling or blowing snow. Wear appropriate clothing to avoid cold-related emergencies. Practice proper body posture and mechanics to avoid shoveling injuries.
