The Pinelands golf course is applying to the NJDEP to draw more water from the Cohansey Kirkwood aquifer to water their grass. This aquifer extends from Trenton down to Cape May and from the Delaware River to the Atlantic. The general direction of flow underground is from West to East and Northwest to Southeast. In effect, Folsom is downstream from the golf course.
The Borough of Folsom Environmental Commission is concerned about excessive diversion of water from the Kirkwood Cohansey Aquifer for the purpose of watering the golf course since no additional information is provided. It is understood that Pond 1 is a supply of water which is aided by withdrawal of groundwater from Well 1.
The new application, filed on March 7, 2023, requests diversion of 7 million gallons of water each month. Our first question is what happens if more water is needed during dry months? The test conducted in 2021 pumped water at a rate of 145 g/m. This test ran for 72 hours. However, the application is asking to pump 1,000 g/m out of the ground. This is 6 times greater therefore producing unknown impact!
The concern about drawing much more water than in the past is the impact on surface water, plants and wildlife as well as an impact on resident wells.
If you are interested in writing a letter of concern to the NJDEP, please email the Department at:
[email protected] the emails will be read during a Public Hearing in Trenton. Please provide your contact information (name, telephone number and email)
Thank you!

Folsom Environmental Commission
Second Chance Toy Drive!!!

Join us in making a difference for our FIFTH season!

66% of our nation’s toys are plastic! Millions of tons of plastic toys end up in landfills. That includes Buzz Lightyear and Mr. Potato Head. It is our goal, with your help, to reduce the amount of plastics in our landfills while giving children around our community a brighter and more cheerful Holiday Season.

· When you donate a much needed lightly used toy, you are providing so much more than the toy itself!
· Toys provide motivation and a medium to learn. They help children develop motor skills. They bring joy and laughter.
· As our children grow older they learn to share and there is no better time to share than the Holidays coming up.

Here are some tips to follow:
1. Toys must be plastic.
2. CLEAN – wipe them down inspect them to insure they are like new!
3. NO missing parts.
4. Include batteries that work
5. No toys that fit through a toilet paper roll (hazard)
6. Have baggies and masking tape on hand to attach loose pieces to the toy.

DATES for drop off: Monday, November 18th thru Tuesday, December 3rd
Location: Bring the lightly used and cleaned plastic toys to Borough Hall and drop them off in a bin either in the lobby or outside the front door. During open hours only!!!

We will then have toys available to pick up at Borough Hall lawn on Saturday, DEC. 14th !

PLEASE help us REDUCE plastics in landfills and GIVE a child a joyous Holiday Season. It would be a great family project finding some slightly used plastic toys, CLEANING them, and then ….Just drop them in the bin.

Together we can do something bigger than just recycling!!

Thank you!

A good reason to keep an environmentally friendly yard. Lightning bugs are declining because of pesticides and light pollution. What we do in our backyard matters…

More than 170 species of fireflies light up North America's nights, but several are threatened by light pollution, pesticides and climate change.
