The annual Tomorrow’s Department Head Forum is back and will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

This event is targeted for mid-career managers who aspire and are considering a Department Head position within the next two years. Attendees will hear from senior local government executives, including City Managers, Assistant City Managers, current Department Directors, Human Resource Directors, and an Executive Recruiter.

The application deadline is October 2 at 5:00 pm. Selected applicants will be notified by October 16.

Public service asks a lot of the people who show up for it every day. This conference isn't built to add another session to your calendar. It's built to give you room to think, and people around you who've done the work.

The 2026 Annual Conference schedule is live. Four tracks organized around where you actually are in your career, not a one-size-fits-all agenda. Keynotes from people who've lived what you're navigating. Equity woven throughout.

Scholarships are open now for students and full members who couldn't otherwise attend. Registration, most meals, and lodging are covered (travel and incidentals are not). Throwback to the Board of Directors Summer Retreat! We reviewed results from our Myers-Briggs assessments, checked in on our Strategic Plan progress, and planned events and set goals for the rest of the year.

We'd like to thank Assistant City Manager Charles Ching for welcoming us to Walnut Creek City Hall, and MMANC Past President Nancy Hetrick for facilitating our discussions.

The retreat was extra special as we welcomed new Region 1 co-chair, Orly Amey, wore our favorite Hawaiian shirts, and ended the retreat with networking in downtown Walnut Creek.

As we embark on the last 4 months of the year, our Board is feeling empowered, re-energized, and hopeful for the rest of 2026. From launching new initiatives, reaching 1,000 members, and getting ready to recognize the LARGEST CGL graduating class in MMANC history, we are so proud to have an amazing MMANC community to celebrate these milestones with 💙
