Today many of our local school districts welcome students back to the classroom. We'd like to recognize our three dedicated School Resource Deputies and share with everyone how they spent their summer break. While students were enjoying their summer away from the classroom, our SRD's were busy with community outreach at several events including the county fair, Cops at Culvers, National Night Out and Police Lights of Christmas to name a few.

These three dedicated deputies play a vital role in providing a safe learning environment for students and staff all while strengthening community relations throughout the county.

Happy 10th Birthday to K9 Cohl!

K9 Cohl is partnered with his handler, Sgt. Tyler Ho**ig.
This team joined the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office in October of 2023.

When not on duty, Cohl enjoys long walks in the woods and playing fetch until Tyler has had enough......his energy might come from the secret snacks he gets when his handler is not around!

Cohl still thinks he is a puppy, even though the gray on his muzzle says otherwise.......happens to us all Cohl!!

Incident: Human Skeletal Remains Investigation

On August 14, 2026, detectives from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office assisted Madison Police Department investigators in serving a search warrant connected to a Madison PD stalking investigation. The warrant was executed at the suspect's home in rural Fond du Lac County.

During the search, detectives located books, documents, and memorabilia related to murders and serial killers, along with skeletal remains — including what appeared to be numerous human skulls — and other potentially illegally possessed items.
Upon discovery of this additional evidence, which appeared unrelated to the Madison PD stalking investigation, the Sheriff's Office obtained a separate search warrant from a Fond du Lac County Circuit Court judge. Sheriff's detectives subsequently collected a variety of evidentiary items, including the human skulls and skeletal remains.

Detectives are working with a forensic anthropologist affiliated with the Wisconsin Crime Lab, the Wisconsin Historical Society, the Wisconsin Inter-Tribal Repatriation Committee, and specialized laboratories to determine whether the remains are authentic and whether they are modern-era remains or archaeological Native American remains.

The forensic anthropologist's initial physical examination determined that many of the remains are likely ancient Native American in origin; however, several of the skeletal remains require specialized forensic testing at a laboratory to determine their origin.

Attached with this release is a copy of the criminal complaint filed in Dane County that outlines additional details.

This investigation remains active and ongoing. No additional information can be released at this time in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Incident: Structure Fire

At approximately 10:12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident at 314 Fond du Lac Avenue in the Village of Eden reporting a fire in a bedroom, with smoke and flames visible.

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at the residence and confirmed that all occupants and pets had safely evacuated. The deputy observed smoke coming from the roofline.

The Eden Fire Department and Eden First Responders responded to the scene, along with fire departments from Campbellsport, Mount Calvary, the Town of Fond du Lac, and RIT 4. Campbellsport Ambulance also responded.

Due to the quick response of emergency personnel, the fire was contained and did not spread to other areas of the residence. The fire was limited to an upper-level bedroom that was being used for storage. Some items within the bedroom were destroyed, and the bedroom sustained minor water damage. The living areas of the residence sustained minor smoke damage.

An investigation determined that the occupants initially smelled an electrical odor approximately one hour before the fire was discovered. The fire is believed to have originated in the bedroom.

The fire is not considered suspicious. No civilians or emergency personnel were injured during the incident.

In Memory of K9 Ace

It is with profound sadness that the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office announces the unexpected passing of K9 Ace following medical complications.

Ace arrived here in August 2020, and since then, faithfully served the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Fond du Lac County alongside his handler, Sergeant Andrew Kohlmann. In these last six years, Ace demonstrated an extraordinary level of dedication, courage, and commitment to the community he served.

Together, Sgt. Kohlmann and K9 Ace were deployed 479 times, resulting in 496 arrests and countless instances in which Ace’s skills helped keep our deputies and community safe.

Throughout his career, Ace was responsible for helping locate and seize significant amounts of illegal drugs and other evidence, including:

• 1,347 grams of co***ne
• 1,080 grams of he**in
• 2,657 grams of methamphetamine
• 2,070 M**A pills
• More than 1,500 scheduled narcotics pills and prescription medications
• 236 paraphernalia arrests and citations
• 35 illegally possessed fi****ms seized
• More than $100,000 in drug-related cash seized

While these numbers demonstrate the tremendous impact Ace had on law enforcement and community safety, they do not tell the whole story.

K9 Ace was more than a law enforcement tool. He was a partner, a protector, and a beloved member of the Sheriff’s Office family. Behind every deployment was a dedicated dog who relied on his training and instincts, and a handler who trusted him completely. Together, Ace and Sgt. Kohlmann formed a partnership that made a lasting difference in Fond du Lac County and to our Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit. The duo’s work was an integral factor in driving the growth of our K9 program to the size it is today.

Ace worked when called upon, stood beside his fellow deputies, and served our community without hesitation. His contributions will continue to be felt through the people he helped protect, the dangerous substances and weapons he helped remove from our streets, and the countless situations in which his service made a difference.

Today, we ask the citizens of Fond du Lac County to join us in remembering K9 Ace and honoring the six years of faithful service he gave to our community.

To Sgt. Kohlmann: We recognize the tremendous bond between you and Ace and the loss that comes with saying goodbye to a trusted partner and friend. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens you served together are grateful for everything you both gave to this community.

Rest easy, Ace. Your watch is over, and your six other four-legged partners will take it from here.

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be working alongside local law enforcement to deter drunk driving and prevent tragedies during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The message is clear: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

During the 2024 Labor Day holiday (6 p.m. August 30 - 5:59 a.m. September 3), there were 505 traffic crash fatalities nationwide. Of these 505 fatalities, 34% (170) involved a drunk driver. Seventy-seven percent of the impaired drivers killed had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 or higher. Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 who were killed in crashes over the Labor Day holiday in 2024, 40% of those drivers were drunk, with BACs of .08 or higher.

We want our community members to understand that it’s our first priority to keep people safe, so we’re asking everyone to plan ahead if they know they’ll be out drinking.

If a driver intends to drink during a Labor Day festivity, he or she should plan ahead for a safe ride home by securing a designated driver or calling a taxi or rideshare. They shouldn’t wait until after drinking to plan how to get somewhere. Impairment clouds a person’s judgment and endangers others on the road.

If a driver finds they are unable to drive, they should give their keys to a sober driver so that person can get them home safely. When a friend has been drinking and is considering driving, friends should be proactive — take away the keys and help them get a sober ride home. If anyone spots a drunk driver, contact local law enforcement.

Incident: Vehicle Pursuit/Suspect Search

On 8/17/2026, around 2:26 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle that had recently fled from the City of Fond du Lac Police Department, traveling southbound on HWY 175 near HWY 151. The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle by activating their lights and sirens. The suspect failed to yield to the Deputy and accelerated at a high rate of speed southbound on HWY 175.

The suspect turned onto CTH B eastbound from HWY 175. The suspect then turned northbound on CTH K, turning eastbound on Reinhardt Road, and then turning northbound on HWY 45 for a short period of time before returning northbound on CTH K. Another Deputy who was on CTH K just north of HWY 45 deployed a tire deflation device and was successful. The suspect vehicle turned onto Renzi Road, where it turned northbound on HWY 151. The vehicle immediately utilized an emergency vehicle turn-a-round and continued southbound on HWY 151. Eventually, the driver of the suspect vehicle bailed on foot from the vehicle while it was still rolling and ran southbound from HWY 151, abandoning the vehicle in the middle of the highway.

The suspect ran toward a subdivision on Valley Creek Road. Deputies and Officers with the City of Fond du Lac pursued the suspect on foot until the suspect fled into a cornfield. Due to deputies immediately losing sight of the suspect upon entering the cornfield, deputies discontinued pursuing him on foot due to safety reasons. A perimeter was established in the area of CTH V, Reinhardt Road, CTH K, and Valley Creek Road. Drones from the City of Fond du Lac and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were utilized but were unsuccessful due to the thick foliage.

Multiple K9s, along with their handlers, attempted to locate the suspect during this time.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the suspect was spotted by members of the Sheriff’s Office attempting to exit the cornfield just off of Reinhardt Road. The suspect again fled on foot back into the cornfield.

Multiple announcements were given over a P.A., with no response. A K9 was eventually deployed in the last known location of the suspect in the cornfield. A drone operator was also able to locate the suspect in the cornfield and assisted the arrest team in getting to the suspect’s location. The suspect continued to flee away from the K9 and the arrest team. After an approximately 300-yard track through the cornfield, the suspect was pushed out of the cornfield toward an arrest team that was awaiting him near Paradise Lane. The suspect was taken into custody without incident at 7:45 p.m. and turned over to The City of Fond du Lac Police Department.

The vehicle pursuit covered approximately 12.6 miles. The incident took approximately five and a half hours to come to a successful resolution.
The suspect, a 40-year-old Fond du Lac man, was taken into custody and later transported to a local hospital to be medically cleared before being booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on multiple charges of Fleeing and Eluding, 2nd Degree Reckless Endangering Safety and Felony Bail Jumping.

The suspect is on probation for Possession of Co***ne and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He also had a valid warrant through the Department of Corrections for a Probation Violation.

The suspect currently has two open felony cases through Fond du Lac County. One case is for Possession of Co***ne with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The second open felony case is for Felony Bail Jumping and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Two Fond du Lac County patrol vehicle was damaged during the pursuit. A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy and a City of Fond du Lac Police Officer sustained minor injuries during the incident. No private property was damaged.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Fond du Lac Police Department, Fond du Lac Fire Department, and Wisconsin State Patrol.
